“Wicked” star Cynthia Erivo has weighed in on an internet debate about audience conduct: Should fans sing along to the film’s classic showtunes while seeing it at the movie theater?

Erivo, who plays Elphaba, gave the OK to fans who were moved to sing along during an interview at Thursday’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade broadcast on NBC. She was asked by Hoda Kotb if it was OK to sing along in the theater since so many fans were doing it, to which Erivo answered, “Good. I’m OK with it. We spent this long singing it ourselves — it’s time for everyone else to join in. It’s wonderful.”

Audience singing at “Wicked” has sparked online debate, as some ticket buyers only care to hear the professionals in the film.

They question why no one goes to the movies anymore, but encourages behaviour that annoys movie goers.

It's annoying enough to have people chit chat, turn on their phones, kicking your seat, taking your seat even though you paid and chose it, the last thing I want is to have people who can't sing…sing.

Save it for sing-a-longs or karaoke.

Singing, absolutely not. But during my viewings, the audience clapped after the performances and I really enjoyed that tbh

You wouldn’t sing at a Broadway show, so why would you sing at the movie? It’s not hard to wait for the singalong version that will be coming later in the year. Let people enjoy the actual performance without the noise.

Wont they silence her voice by singing over her? Why would she support her being erased by people's singing?

If they released a sing-along version at the theaters they would double the gross

If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating.

Sing-along will be offered in roughly 1,000 North American cinemas starting on Dec. 25
