My boyfriend plays the sax in two orchestras. I don't play anything, I just study theory but I don't hate classical music. Musicals are just weird, you follow a story, a dialogue, the characters intentions, through a song, and that's what doesn't click. It's just that.

Why do you guys feel that love for musicals should be universal? It will never be, musicals are kind of niche, thanks for coming to my Ted talk.

Do those of you that dislike musicals like opera? And do you like plays? Do you go to the theatre?

Genuine question, just curious. Is it the melding of traditional drama and the music that carries the stakes present in opera that turns you off? Like, the melding of the two? Or is it something else?

also curious how many that don’t like musicals attend the theatre or opera at all, and if you choose to go see operas or plays as opposed to musicals.

As someone who loves opera, I am often on the fence with musicals, I kinda prefer them in animated form over live action ones because the absurdity of people randomly bursting into song and dance to progress the story kinda pulls me outta the story itself.
