Franch Toast 26,911
In response to the seemingly lackluster audience, just a few things: 1) It's common knowledge that weekend one of Coachella is full of influencers mainly there to create content. Weekend two has more actual music lovers. 2) The GA crowd is to the right of the catwalk (as in when you are in the audience, on the right side). The front audience on the left side is people who have friends of the artist passes, i.e., where the celebrities and maybe family members of the artist are. That section tends not to be as enthusiastic for whatever reason. So if the cameras are panning to that section of the audience, you can expect them not to look as excited. 3) The Coachella recording mutes the audience, so you can't hear their enthusiasm. And as for people not dancing as much as you'd like, they're packed like sardines, especially toward the front. I was there both weekends last year, front row barricade for one of them, and you really can't move in the front, other than extending your arms over the barricade. 4) The camera doesn't always capture everything. I saw people claiming the weekend 2 crowd for No Doubt was lackluster based on the livestream, but in person we were all going wild. 5) But yeah, overall, festival crowds will always be worse because they're not necessarily there to see that specific artist. ///And as for why, she cut out certain hits like "Just Dance," probably because she didn't want to reheat her leftover nachos from 2017. I imagine they will be added to the Mayhem Ball. /// She/Her/Hers 2

elijahfan 26,311
That was really incredible, definitely another defining moment of her career. Loved how fully fleshed out the overall concept was, the opera setting made sense to her and her theatricality. I'm really wondering if this is indicative of future performances, especially the MAYHEM Ball: the handwritten font on the poster now makes sense with what we've just seen. I think the strongest part was hands down the first act, each song being performed made me audibly go "Oh bitch". I'm one of those who's very satisfied with the setlist, I did notice the absence of ARTPOP, Joanne and Chromatica songs but if I'm being honest, it felt correct. She's at this stage in her career where she has so many hits she has to make choices - I mean, Madonna doesn't perform Like A Virgin at every tour... I'm fairly sure Just Dance isn't dead and buried and will make a comeback in the future. It really did feel like a Gaga show, down to the references: the chess game segment instantly reminded me of Alexander McQueen' 2005 show 'It's Only A Game'. You know it's a great Gaga show when there's a McQueen reference. Also loved the revamped choreo - and was it Asiel's return?! It all felt like a giant f- you to Richy, ngl Someone must've been seething behind his computer screen. However, I thought some parts of the show were somewhat less exciting. I don't think the static Perfect Celebrity performance totally worked, it reminded me of my frustrations for similar reasons with the Alice performance at the Chromatica Ball. And the Zombieboy segment felt fully awkward, tho this might've been the intention - but it did make me think Tim Burton would make a hell of a video out of it, which it turn reminded me Tim did direct her recently on Wednesday, so we might be getting something along those lines pretty soon... Costumes were understandably more leaning towards theatrical than fashion, especially liked the opening and finale outfits, but wasn't necessarily a huge fan of the rest. But it did feel like a unique page in the Gaga book. Can't wait to rewatch it, and curious to see if weekend 2 will bring any changes.
