Synths were a new way of making sounds that broadened the soundscape, basically giving them more to play with creatively. Music is still made with lots of sounds compiled together just as it was before synths. The comparison would be if AI was being used to create music entirely from a prompt. AI generated art completely replaces any creative work from the 'artist'. If it were the same as synths, it would be like AI inventing new colours to use or new types of paint. It doesn't add to the toolbelt of the artist it replaces the artist entirely.
