The current production running has been filling the emcee and sally roles with essentially guest stars to fill relatively short stints. Catnikko 13,687
This is cool but i'm really happy a black actress was chosen for one of the main roles, it means alot https://linktr.ee/jamalholt
Edonis 28,593
Idc what anyone says, she would’ve TORE as Elphaba if true. Veteran liddos have been fan-casting her in Wicked since 2009 when she started teasing Oz influence in her shows ahead of TMB. The OG film has obviously inspired her A LOT and I would’ve loved to see it play out. But oh well. Maybe in a different timeline.
TylerMedeiros 722
I’m seeing it tomorrow night in 4DX and I’m so happy that Cynthia got it (y’all gotta watch her in the color purple and in the film Harriet) but I’ve always thought Gaga was perfect for this role. Killa 15,503
Stephen Daldry and Gaga wow that kinda seems like a dream team there!!! How did that fell of the plate!??? Maybe they went to less Disney cute I would be curious what she'd do as Ephalba. Cynthia def captures a part of the character well. My problem with Cynthia lies that her voice is very lyric, round and a voice like Gaga more poignant would def work more throught the range of the different songs. It's kinda high for her though lol Well Cynthia is amazing singer and emotes really well. I prefer Gaga doing her own thing. Want her working with Daldry in the future though
Maria Brink 1,501
According to BroadwayWorld.com, Gaga was in talks originally to play Elphaba in the Wicked movie that comes out tomorrow. Ultimately it went to Cynthia Erivo. Thoughts? Would Gaga and Ariana have slayed as Elphaba and Galinda? Coulorcraft 168
I had a feeling this was the case. Yes, Gaga would have been an AMAZING Elphaba, and I wonder if she turned it down due to scheduling conflicts with Joker. If that's the case she is probably kicking herself. The timeline of Stephen Daldry directing Wicked was December 2019-October 2020. Joker 2 definitely doesn't deserve any of the blame. Wicked might have been on the bucket list. But, the internal politics that would see director changes, COVID, being signed onto House of Gucci and Chromatica Tour would have prevented any firm commitment. Even if the new director was interested. Cynthia and Ariana were cast long before an official commitment to Joker.
StrawberryBlond 13,986
Does that mean that if Gaga had been in it, maybe she and Ethan Slater would've got together? And she and Ariana might have fought over him? It would've been cool to see her and Ariana together again (and give some throwback promo to ROM) but I can deal. Maybe I'm going to be in the minority here but I'm quite glad it didn't happen. I really don't think this movie's going to be as big as people are expecting. Those 2 films together are going to have to pull in around $800million combined just to break even and have to pull in well over $1 billion to be successful and I don't know if this is going to appeal to anyone outside of the existing musical's fans. And anyone who might see it out of curiosity definitely won't see part 2 if they don't like the first one. The marketing budget is clearly crazy, they completely copied the Barbie marketing strategy by collabing with all the major brands and slapping the Wicked logo on everything. If this doesn't pan out, it's going to lose the studio so much money. Gaga doesn't need another major flop. I don't want her blowing out her vocal chords by singing Defying Gravity (apparently that happened to Idina Menzel). I also don't want Gaga to be overexposed with too many lead roles in high budget movies. It could lead to resentment against her and I like to see musical roles given to full-time working actors who have performed on the stage as well. And let's face it, the amount of controversy this film is generating is crazy - Ariana and Ethan getting together, Cynthia's poster rant, the dolls having a website address at the bottom of a box that led to a p**n site (and Mattel simply telling parents to destroy the packaging and that's it) and now Ariana and Cynthia getting too thin and crying in every interview...I'd rather Gaga wasn't associated with this. And to be honest, this is not the kinda movie I'd want to have to endure to support her either. It seems like a lot of big stars have that one movie they could've starred in but just have to let it go. Remember that Beyonce was going to be lead of ASIB and it was going to be directed by Clint Eastwood. It certainly didn't hurt her career that it fell through. I'd rather Gaga was slaying with music than movies anyway.

onionring 42
Honest question isn't Elphaba out of her vocal range? I think she might have considered that to not anger the broadway fans or god forbid damage her vocal cords, but also this is Page Six y'all when did we start trusting them? I'd love to see her in revival or a film version of Gypsy (not sure it would work in todays climate) or emcee in Cabaret or something new altogether.
