Judge This Born This Way Era Rollout

I’m of the opinion that the 5 singles chosen for the era were PERFECT, just in the wrong order. So what if they rearranged and tweaked it a little, would it have been better received and the era seen more favorably? I say this as a hardcore lover of BTW. This is what I imagine the rollout went down…

1. Born This Way (February 2011)-  FLAWLESS lead, no questions asked! Really hyped up the era.
2. Marry The Night (April 2011)- She really was passionate about this track, imagine Gaga serving vocals AND electro rock- pop madness as the 2nd single! I imagine Gaga racing down a highway with a bunch of wrecked up cars around her! At her destination, a sinister looking man with a cloak and claws for hands gives her a VIP pass for a mysterious nightclub called “Electric Chapel”.
3. You And I (May 2011+ Album Release) - Like Eh, Eh, this will only become a radio single limited release in the US and Canada. A MV may or may not be provided, but a lot of performances are planned! Will remain a promo single WW.
4. The Edge Of Glory (August 2011) - She debuts this song at the VMA’s , at the peak of her Fame, Glory, and Power! She will OBlITERATE all other performers at the VMA’s with this awesome and beloved track! A great joyous song for the end of summer and beginning of Fall!
5. Judas (December 2011)- Gaga Goes to Hell!!! After 4 successful singles, she releases the fan-favorite, BR usurper, JUDAS!!! The MV she releases is more controversial than the og and the GP get mad at her as she runs away laughing to the bank!

What do you think? You like this rollout or the original? Discuss!

Schieße and Bloody Mary should’ve been singles. Marry the Night should’ve been second. The Edge of Glory was perfect. And I love Judas and the video. You can’t change one thing without having a completely different history. Wouldn’t be able to change the order and keep the same videos. I think You and I really vaulted the momentum of the album personally. But nothing will change the fact that this was a perfect album and my favorite in all existence!

meh

i think TEOG should have just been the official single the day it got released as a promo single

in hindsight i don't really fault the eras rollout apart from judas being a bit messy

Her downfall was releasing Judas. Like I’m sorry, I love Gaga, but she released it when she did during Easter just to be controversial. I’m not even trying to defend Christians but Judas release and timing put the dent in her career and added to the overexposure as well. I love the song and video and wouldn’t change it but I agree with OP. Maybe release later than how it happened. It would’ve still been controversial but I think it might’ve faired better.

It was a good single choice but like you said, should’ve been released later when the era started to lose steam. The title track was controversial enough, having another contrived/ controversial track after BTW just made people roll their eyes. It wasn’t even that controversial tbh but people were getting tired of her gimmicks. Judas was the most cynical attempt at a smash hit. That’s why I would have released it as the final single to hype up the next era.

Yeah, I never understood why they saw TEOG as a promo single kinda track. I can see You And I and Hair as promo singles, but NOT the anthemic and very mature but also GP friendly TEOG. The title itself is CLASSIC! Also with DWUW. Two very single worthy songs were deemed as promotional only? Ridiculous!

It was probably a compromise of sorts like they planned to let her close the era the way she wanted (Gaga revealed on LittleMonsters.com that she originally wanted TEOG as the final single) but she/they were probably excited to get the song out there at the time time. Then with it debuting number 3 it just became too obvious to pass up, especially when Judas was pretty much tanking

I actually kind of love your idea of having Yoü and I as the single pushed alongside the album, it’s almost what she did anyway. I personally enjoy theorizing what she would have done had they followed through with her ambition to release 10 singles and pulling a Shania Twain with her Come On Over album. She released 12 singles from that album! I also always like to imagine life had Gaga been given a little break post-Monster Ball before launching into a huge global promo tour for BTW (album). If Gaga had done that, this would have been an INCREDIBLE RUN:

1. Born This Way (Obvious, #1) - May 2011

2. The Edge of Glory (^^^, #1 guaranteed with radio deal) - August 2011

VMAs (TEOG + BTW Medley)

Album Release - September 2011

3. Yoü and I (US / CAN / AUS Only) - October 2011

4. Scheiße (International Markets Only) - November 2011

AMAs (Yoü and I) / EMAs (Scheiße)

5. Hair (January 2012)

Grammys (Hair)

6. Marry The Night (US Only) - April 2012

7. Judas (International Markets Only) - May 2012

BTWB Begins - June 2012

8. Heavy Metal Lover - July 2012

VMAs (Heavy Metal Lover)

9. Bloody Mary - October 2012

10. Americano - January 2013

BTWB Ends - May 2013

marry the night as first single

born this way as second, because at the end of marry the night she is an alien goddess and we enterred the fantasy after the reality so born this way is the space fantasy.

then a three songs movie for fan service....

and bad kids as the last single with a BW clip that is a live in the desert on a big stage and all her fans could come for free (the clip itself is a hapening), and at the end she leaves in a helicopter and waves from the ladder  (that's something i imagined so long ago)

it started with the 'express yourself' comparisons.... It started with BTW.

and the big interview when gaga talks about that. The journalist really came for her in that long as* interview....

Started sure, but Judas during Easter didn’t help her image either.

Yes, it’s what she and her team should’ve done, but just a release in the US and Canada only. Another #1 after BTW and (maybe) MTN. Releasing it worldwide after the release of the album really stalled the era.
