I understand this album getting noms but breaking the record Thriller had when it's the best selling album of all time/ constantly studied decades afterwards/ possibly the most mentioned by artists when it comes to their influences? I know it also depends of the year's competition but still c'mon... I hear you but I think her not getting AOTY yet is "over the top" so I'm celebrating her getting her things. Thriller is excellent and really popular. Cowboy Carter is obviously less popular but it does things Thriller doesn't. Beyoncé and her work has and is currently being studied at Harvard/Yale like MJ has. CC has more context and more to say than Thriller tbh so the nominations make sense to me. I'm not saying she should necessarily be winning everything she's nominated for but if a person actually sits down and digests Cowboy Carter for all that it is with the knowledge to understand it all? Idk what's surprising about it getting nominations. There's plenty of unchecked negativity and shade about it here; can a positive comment or two exist as well without getting challenged? This is my Hannah Montana™️ lipgloss.

They never nominate her for this one and seem to compensate that with giving her noms for absolutely everything else if she gives it a try. 1 hour ago, Roughhouse Dandy said: CC has more context and more to say than Thriller tbh so the nominations make sense to me. Idk what's surprising about it getting nominations That's an other question to ask. The quality is supposed to be the only reason for a Grammy nom' so messages/references shouldn't be what gives it the nom if you follow this institution own proclaimed motto. Now plenty of reasons differing to the original "concept" of the Grammys seem to add themselves in the final mix so I understand why folks question the whole ceremony and not just certain noms, be it Beyoncé's one or many others actually. The entire institution needs a complete reset imo.
Charmz 3,866
There were so many great albums this year. Kudos to Beyoncé’s team for trying a new marketing tactic, and shame on the Grammys for being scared not to nominate her for everything. I mention the content within the project because that's what stands out to me as part of what makes it such great quality. It has a lot to say. I could mention the production, vocal delivery, track flow, concept, lyrics, structure, etc... but I already have previously and repeatedly talking about it here will label me (further) as just a stan. Lextyr97 18,934
I’ll give my unsolicited opinion since everyone else is hehehehe. I love Cowboy Carter. I think Ameriican Requiem is one of Bey’s best songs. But girl 11 nominations? Levii’s Jeans, REALLY? That song sucks. I also understand Texas Hold ‘Em getting all those nominations but dear god that song is so awful 🤣😭 16 Carriages is the much better alternative but I digress. ANYWAYS I hope Bey fans can move on from her not winning AOTY. She’s the most Grammy nominated artist in history and the most Grammy awarded artist in history. There isn’t even a SINGLE other pop star in the top 20 most awarded Edited November 9 by Lextyr97

To me the quality of these factors was there indeed but didn't justify so many noms but it's always subjective anyway.
JustTea 4,127
It's like her ARTPOP/Joanne era, underperformed album with one big hit single, but Grammy's are still licking her a$$ nonetheless. It's just undeniable at this point that Grammys have a strong bias towards Bey and Taylor...
TwistedTeeth 1,621
Well-deserved, honestly. In addition, and I know people will seethe for this, her rendition of Jolene was really beautiful! She also showcased some small time black country artists, so this is probably huge for them and I'd be so excited if they won. Railing 2,277
the only reason this album got so many nominations is because of the outrage following Renaissance's year. Cowboy Carter is probably one of the least influential/important albums of her career thus far

StrawberryBlond 13,996
11 nominations is outrageous. I kinda admire her confidence to just shoot her shot by submitting at every category to show off how eclectic her music is and I'm all for songs getting nominated under the genres that they actually are as opposed to reserving it to the genre that the artist usually makes...but the academy shouldn't indulge it to this degree. To get music from ONE album nominated across FIVE different genres in a single ceremony is too much. If that's the case, why doesn't this respect get granted to every artist who makes eclectic fusion albums? I'd love to see lots of Gaga's non-singles on her albums get nominations at the ceremony but they've never given that chance. Nor do they do it for 98% of other artists. There must be payola and gift baskets at play here. This is out of hand. But, oddly enough, I'm hoping this is a sign that the academy will indeed award her AOTY this time. Just my theory but I think after she made that statement about how she's never going to win AOTY in a really cocky way (like "I don't need their irrelevant awards") on Sweet Honey Buckin', that the academy just kinda want to give it her to humble her a little. And with any luck, it'll make her overzealous fans who whine about her not winning every time finally shut up. And maybe then she'll stop getting crazy nominations every year because she'll have won the ultimate prize. It's common for this to happen to artists after they win it and seeing as she's the most nominated and awarded person in Grammy history, I don't really think she needs many more nominations anyway. How is Bodyguard that much more pop than Texas Hold Em? How is Spaghetti more rap than Levi’s Jeans that literally features a rapper and has a prominent rap verse from Bey herself lol. They’re literally all fusions of music into a country-pop album, it should have been limited to one of those genres. Other artists have literally been snubbed from their MAIN genre because of Grammys views on genre but when it’s Bey I guess they’ll nominate her for any category she submits to lol Say it louder for the people in the back! The academy have put artists in a box for years. They won't nominate you in a category that goes outside the genre that you're famed for making. They can do it but they consider it moving mountains. When Kacey Musgraves made more of a pop country album instead of full-on country, she was locked out of all the country nominations and got one measly nomination which she didn't even win and this is a woman who'd been a Grammy favourite and had even won AOTY with her previous album. I'd only imagine Gaga getting nominated for another genre if she features on another artist's song who's always made that music. It just annoys me to see it being one rule for Beyonce and another for everyone else. The blatant favouritism is clearly turning off her own fans, if the replies on this thread are anything to go by. I guess they think it's one thing if she's made a very impactful album but this one, which just kinda came and went, doesn't deserve to take away rightful nominations from better, more popular albums. In 2021, she got 9 nominations (the most of the night) when she didn't even release a studio album. That's when people really began to question what was going on here, for good reason. This is a slap in the face to Beyoncé. If she wins, if I were her I would take it as a slap in the face. They practically publicly shamed the Grammys to give her these awards. Her husband shamed the Grammys. If she wins AOTY i would get a divorce. I live the most privileged life to be able to live vicariously through Taylor Swift’s albums. I’ve had enough of being fed trash music and pretending to love it. Edited November 10 by selenalavigne Ready to Stan LG7
