I was relistening to The Fame last night and Just Dance played. The beats and lyrics still packed a punch, even 16 years later. Disease feels so bland and boring in comparison, like it was some unfinished demo from The Fame Monster. I am not comparing because I'm opposed to change, but I like to see creative risks and growth from my favorite artists. Whether that is in the lyrics, the music, or the imagery, I want them to improve and keep things interesting. Disease did not showcase that.

I'm sure she has the talent to create magic, like she has done before, but she really seems to have struggled with Disease. It just isn't entertaining sonically or visually.

I'm sure you can read the room, and I'm sure you can see how the fanbase is reacting to the song, and I don't know if you watched any reaction videos or seen review scores, but breaking news: it's a consensus. Don't you feel weird presenting your reaction to it with adjectives constructed as objective facts? You're practically alone on this, bestie, so don't come at us with "It just isn't entertaining sonically or visually." Also, saying it was an unfinished demo from The Fame Monster is wild, it would never belong on TFM, and i'm gonna be a little arrogant right now but there's a lot of people here that are so bad at analysing the overall vibe of a work and then tie things together that are so very loosely related, it's like the black hair from TFM cover was on your subconscious when you watched the Disease MV and you just stick both like a magnet, cause sonically, it's not it sister. Put Bad Romance back to back with Disease and it sounds like BR is an 18 year twink in love singing a song at the club thinking about his crush, while Disease sounds like a 30 year old crying on the bathroom floor after his husband died.

Beyonce went through a similar drought, I wonder why nobody wrote about that.

To be fair, monsters mocked the beyhive for a time because of this. Saying that she didn't have a #1 since 2008, and then after the remixes of Mi Gente and Perfect, that she didn't have a solo number #1. I think that's why the Beyhive is so relentless on this point, and the other fanbases just followed :icega:

Vast majority is the public and they agree with me. It flopped for Gaga's standards, let's not kid ourselves. Obviously people on this site are biased but musically Disease is one of her weakest lead singles.

Calling us biased after saying that the public didn't like it and "agrees" with you is wild. The public didn't listen to it yet, the song debuted with 5M, and then kept making 2M daily streams until now, which is a very clear indicative that the people who listened to it are going back again.. There are so many people listening to it on repeat still, and not silently to give it streams, lots of monsters on x are saying they can't get it out of their head and they keep listening to it. I listen to it every day still, and I have not been this excited with her music EVER, I started around ARTPOP and I was here for Joanne and Chromatica and I feel triple the excitement I felt during those last two, a lot of people are reporting similarly. You're alone in this, and I don't know if it's the case, maybe you already stated these opinions the day the song came out, but you just sound like you withered after following the song chart performance.

And that's

This is an example of someone trying to present their unique view as solid fact. I adore Gaga's music (as I'm sure most people think) more than anyone else could and Disease is the ONE song that re lit the old fire. I had issues with the production (so not gagA) of multiple songs across albums when the listener seemed to take a back seat to a vibe or message. Here I feel that same concise and regimented perfection of beat overlapped by super intense and audibly exciting vocals. (not to say I need perfection, but I've never heard it from anyone but her)

I'm not reading all that, but it seems like many people here are triggeredddddd by my opinionnnnnn :yennefer:

I didn't mean to present my opinion as a fact, by the way, but seriously, its flopping on Spotify... I think that's a clear indication it's not clicking with the public. It's cause they know Gaga is capable of more :pole:

So, two scenarios, you have read all that and didn't know how to answer OR you really didn't read which shows you're a coward.

So I'll summarize for you: the entire fan base is excited as hell. Using chart performance to back up your opinion doesn't work if 99% of the fanbase loves it, and you know full well that this fanbase doesn't hold back when they don't like something, biased opinions my ass.

You're allowed to not like it, but at this point you're just farting in the room.

Yes, I dreadfully read everything you wrote but there really wasn't anything of importance you said so why should I waste my precious time replying back? :green:

I don't care about charts, but they don't lie when it comes to public opinion and "hit songs" are hits because the mainstream loves it, not just the fans. A good example is I had Some Help by Post Malone and Morgan Wallen. It's not the best song but the public is eating it up because its entertaining and fun. Disease is not, it's bland and boring.

We don't care about public reception. What's good is good, even if doesn't sell. Charts are a result of marketing, if you think they're organic and represent art objectively, you're naive. Public's taste is often very sus...

And you have the rhetoric of a 10 year old. I fear common sense is not your strong suit and your arguments stink so much, they're those ones you strongly disagree with but it would keep generating a bigger essay to reason with you, for it to be met with "I ain't reading it". Have a good night.

i f-cking knew there was a twitter stan vibe pulsing under there. I see mainly swifties and katycats talking about sales sales and only sales cause they can't defend theirs on delivery, and i know i shouldn't care about stan wars but the gaga hate train is so f-cking annoying, 15 years in and they're still burning coal on this mutherf-cker, can these basic bitches analyse art OBJECTIVELY or they just listen to the girls at the top of the charts and close themselves there in a chamber that dumbs down their interpretation of anything, i know there are subjective factors but they are blind and deaf, i'm sorry, gaga PUKED a version of herself on the mv two months after looking like dolly parton to sing an amazing ballad, and these flavourless vanilla-ice-cream-gargling c*nts, who have to plan their meal to have sex, get satisfied with the bare minimum from their faves and have the NERVE to keep talking about those goddamn charts, get outta here :fthis:

ok, azealia spirit has been given a space and is now exorcised

i'm so happy DWAS is #1 for 61 days :vegas: jk

And your reading comprehension sucks.

I never said good chart performance equates to better art. Although, Gaga is a household name so a single of hers tanking this badly means its not a "hit" , which is what this original thread was about. And my main suspicion on why it flopped in the charts is because it didn't showcase what Gaga is capable of. What's good is good but Disease wasn't. :trollga:

Gaga Scholar

This garbage article is making me mad. What a lazy way for this author to meet their quota! My god.

Not sure why they feel it's necessary to invent and spread a narrative that Gaga has lost her magic (and isn't challenging herself) based on VERY flimsy "evidence."

It's in poor taste, it's bad writing, and it's bullying. If this person paid attention to Gaga's career at all, they'd know that LG7 is done and ready to go. So no amount of shaming Gaga publicly now for the perceived underperformance of "Disease"--which hasn't even been out that long--is going to change LG7's content.

So what exactly is this article trying to achieve--hurting or helping Gaga's career? The author claims to want to see Gaga succeed yet writes this bull? Okay, Jan.

It makes me sick when these culture "experts" pit Gaga's own genius and high standards against her and act high and mighty while doing it.

Even if she never makes another hit, the woman deserves respect for all the amazing things she's already given the world.

She's already a legend for what she served in 2008-2012. She's already earned her keep multiple times over and the right to create whatever she wants with whomever she wants at any level of quality and commercial success.

And in any case, people should know by now that it's never a good idea to underestimate Gaga. :trollga:

It's not like bradley cooper made Shallow be number 1 lol, she could pull that by herlself, or am i completely delusional??? It's her song for anyone matters, even it's a duet.

The rest might be partial true.

I imagine for that they’re not counting it bc it comes off of a huge successful movie too.

What even is a solo hit though? Every hit song with solo vocals still requires a strong collaborative effort between writers, producers, musicians, etc. behind the scenes. I don’t really see the difference between the background team work that went into making poker face a hit vs her collab with Ariana on ROM. It’s not the people who come together, but the stroke of magic that the collab produces.

The difference is did she have help getting more spins and thus a #1? The solo hit question is less to do with the writing and production and more precisely to do with does it feature another artist or not who could help them find more success

I know I said I was gonna stop but I can't rest when I'm not satisfied with an answer. And the "it's bad" multiple times is not doing it for me.

Let's both stop being sassy for a second, cause now I got really curious. What could be different? What's not hitting with you? What elements of the song make it bland and bad? How do you feel about the lyrics, the vocals, the structure, the production? Do you like the ad libs? The growls? The industrial vibe?
