Republicans have won the presidency, senate, and house. Trump has appointed 3 far right Supreme Court justices and he will have opportunities to replace more. He incited an insurrection. He was found guilty of 34 felonies. He has said to seek revenge on his enemies. He has said he wants to shoot people. He has said he wants to replace everyone with loyalists. He can commit any crimes as an official act without facing consequences. Roe v Wade has been overturned and women are dying right now.

A lot of the autopsies I'm seeing on here don't get at why this happened at all. It's really, really simple.

Trump got 3 million less votes than he did in 2020. He's only gotten less popular. Kamala ran a campaign centered entirely around begging Republicans to vote for her and... they didn't. She got 15 million less votes than Biden did in 2020. She completely alienated her own voters by pandering to conservatives that were never going to vote for her.

I know this might sound a bit disregarding with it being fresh on our minds and don’t doubt for a second it’s not the result I wanted but, with every bad thing that happens there is also opportunity. If, and here’s hoping somehow the democratic process remains, the Dems can do some soul searching, establish why this happened and get their ducks in a row for the next time. They need to find that rare once in a generation candidate like Obama. Even if Trump and JD make life harder in so many ways over the next 4 years, he clearly has a stranglehold on the American psyche. Dems will need to figure out and fast how to challenge this and this is the opportunity to do so.

Democrats pay a lot of lip service to Gen Z but it’s evident they don’t do much to actually reach out to them. They’ve allowed Republicans to have full access and control of them without any resistance. 

Young people don’t naturally swing this far to the right. They have been indoctrinated and the Democrats have allowed it to happen by not paying attention to it and by allowing the Republican propaganda machine to go completely unchallenged. Nobody has been watching these kids. Nobody has been there to try and lead them away from this.

Not even young teenagers, children. Their parents are lifelong influences. We had all thought that the internet would provide free passage for young adults to become educated, but this election has shown that misinformation has found its way into the children's lives. How do we even challenge something like this? We're seeing nationwide bans on critical race theory, etc. The best we can do is mount legal challenges and support education. Democrats HAVE to start finding ways to funnel education to our children. And it's not gonna be a great argument for a platform because Republicans will just spin it into "indoctrinating children". Republicans have made so much headway because they've silently back channeled small changes in a million different ways. Democrats fail because they provide good ideas, but there's no back channeling to provide a foundation. 

 

Best way forward is funding programs for young men to get training on jobs, finance, etc and leverage state/fed funding. Not outwardly advertising it's funded by Democrat policies, but drip feeding that information to participants.

Kamala will become a vocal critic of the Trump administration and before you know it she’s holding a rally in Los Angeles (to offset Gavin’s in the Bay) announcing her intention to run. She will embrace more left leaning policies but will be haunted by the Biden stink. 

Not a single one of these options is appealing in the slightest. Kamala would just be pulling a Hillary. Wasn't Gavin up for a recall not too long ago? Gretchen can't stand her ground against Republicans. Pete isn't serious enough and also gay. The best chance is somebody rugged. Democrats need to find a man in his early 40s, maybe latino that has a good history WORKING (everyday job, not lawyer prosecutor etc). I'm not sure if he's already active in politics, but if he is they need to platform him.

This is definitely a inditement on the Democratic Party rather than on Kamala. All of the Progressive social issues were used as a cudgel against  susceptible Americans. The most common commercial I see in Texas is about schools transitioning little kids. There is no truth to it , and democrats aren’t running on that, but the lying persists.

 

Some type of new movement needs to happen for liberals. Not sure what that is. But the status quo of trying to rebuild the Obama years is not working 

At the very least if there is war or a recession, we'll make head on more progressive ideals.

Well said. Sense of belonging is engrained in humans. It's why people turn to religion and cults. We need a sense of community. Democrats need to lay a foundation to the foundation of their policies, and that's outreach to the younger generation. Not just memes, but actual conversation.

That user is just obsessed with dragging Democrats because of their actions on a ceasefire. If you look at their activity for the past few months it is the only thing they've commented on. Which I can understand and appreciate in a way because obviously we're talking about the loss of human life. But we can't even fund social programs for our own people and we spend considerable time criticizing Ukraine funding, 99% of Americans are not gonna vote based on people's right to life halfway across the world.
