Yep. They are going to have to run on strong Democratic populism next few cycles. And hope that Trump becomes the mad king and doesn’t die, otherwise you are leaving the keys to a company at Vance

If Trump's team prove themselves competent for once and act on their proposals:

Stripping Medicare

Rounding up all "illegal" immigrants (and some legal ones too from both Trump and Vance's words)

Federal ban on abortion and contraceptives

Abolishing the Department of Education

Giving cops full immunity

Gutting the EPA, FBI, CIA, and other federal departments

Maybe Americans will finally learn that progressive policies aren't the evil, baby killing, Marxist, communist, socialist country-ruiners they let the media make them out to be.

Until then I'm in the market for a new nation to call home. Because f*ck this one and all the people who've decided kissing the ring of the "great" White Power was the smart thing to do.

Like..stick to your songs..nobody wants to be lectured by billionaire Beyoncé or Taylor on politics - especially Americans that can’t afford to buy food on a daily basis :littlepotter:

Tell that to the people getting angry because their favorite celebrity wouldn't post about it.

Torn on whether to call Trump supporters stupid or if I'm part of the problem

I mean yeah they are obviously but like, I'm wondering if saying it out loud just makes them dig their heels in more and reinforces their worldview

Do you feel him sir?

Trump and the republicans won:

Electoral college

Popular Vote

Senate

They also did amazing with Black voters and Latino voters as well. People did not turn out for her and the Dems. Kamala didn’t gain ANY ground on what Biden won in 2020, in fact she lost ground and did much worse.

People are sick of being lectured to and being told they are garbage and no good if they want to vote for their economic interests and job security versus fake narratives about Hit**r and the end of democracy. Being shamed to vote one way because of your skin colour, race or ***uality by out of touch, elitist billionaire celebrities.

That just doesn’t work anymore - nobody gives a damn what Taylor Swift or Oprah have to say when, for them, they are secure and filthy rich and can’t relate at all to your average, everyday American. Kamala was inauthentic, a puppet with zero answers, zero conviction and parachuted into a role she has no experience and background for.

Go outside your echo chamber for a moment and talk to real people dealing with real struggles and you’ll see this result shouldn’t be shocking at all.

I wouldn’t call them stupid, but misinformed. The American news media played a huge role in this. Moving forward, we should reach out to those straight men, no more fighting. No more identity politics. Work needs to be done to pull them back, but I wonder if the American government will be irreparably damaged by then ..

Sorry I’m from Australia and didn’t really follow the campaigns up until last week; is there a reason why to this?

As far as latino voters go, it boils down to two things: racisms and misogyny.

What background or experience did trump have in 2016.  After leaving office in 2020 all he added to his resume was becoming a felon.

Trump and Elon Musk are literally out of touch billionaires too though.

These people are misinformed but I agree with everything else you said. People were willing to put everything aside for economic reasons, despite economists saying Trump’s plans would be bad for the economy.

I fully doubt that’s gonna happen, but I’d imagine it’d go to JD Vance then, which is still appalling

Yes it is. This country deserves the worst.

I've been with you all night but I'm gonna break with you on this.

No it doesn't.

66 million Americans of voting age tried, and they tried hard. And what of the millions of people under the age of 18 who had no part of this? They don't deserve the worst. They don't deserve to suffer. It is so easy for us to sit here and say that the whole country deserves this and that, but the truth is that there are a **** ton of good people in this country who do not deserve what is being handed to them, and no amount of people voting Republican could ever make it so that they deserve that.

And it's exactly that kind of "get what you deserve" thinking that makes us lose.

It’s okay to be scared and confused and hurt and defeated. Angry even. I am. So many of us are. But we gotta remember how right now feels and take it forward because this isn't over. 2024 is done, but it doesn't stop here.

We’ve got 2026 midterms where we can change the makeup of congress. We’ve got local mid terms. We’ve got ground to cover engaging with our communities and gearing up for the next battle. We’ve got 2028.

We’ll get through it. It seems impossible but we will because we CAN and they cannot stop us no matter how hard they try. We’ll chip away at this bullshit. And as scary as it is, we’ll keep being us. Keep being loudly female, and loudly gay, and loudly trans, and loudly POC. It’ll be scary and hard, but they only erase us if we stop. I know that’s hard to think about and say right now. It is for me too. But we’ll make it together.

As impossible as it seems, we’ll make it all together because we’re stronger. We’re more clever. We’re more devoted. We’re more creative. We have walked harsh roads and learned to survive. And we will survive this too because we have each other and they cannot take that from us.

And we'll succeed because that is what we deserve. In the long run, good people who want good things will succeed. There are clearly set backs along the way, but now is not the time for us to shrug our shoulders and say let it burn. Giving up is just the same as holding the door open for them to walk through.

The good people of this country deserve better than what they get, and you cannot change my mind on that. But they're not getting it right now. So this is where the fight begins. No more leftist vs. lib infighting, no more trying to cut off demographics that we view as unfavorable. We gotta put the time and the effort in to win back those we've allowed to get taken from us. We gotta have the hard conversations, and sit through the awkward moments, and walk through the flames.

But we absolutely, unambigiously should not just give up. That would make us no better than them.
