I have a question, since I am not too familiar with the US system:

What I saw in the media was, that there are of course Republicans that do not want Trump.
Is it possible that some (or even enough) republicans in the Electoral College will not elect Trump?

Its unlikely, Trump's circle has worked very hard on capturing state parties. A lot of the Never Trump Republicans you've seen in the media are elites annoyed they got pushed out of the gravy train not anyone with the power to block him.

Late night thoughts.

1. Biden loomed large in this election. He was a cancer for the campaign. His abysmal approval rating, his physical and mental decline, and the fact that the economy (as the every day man sees it) is in complete disarray are the main thing that drove us to this result.

2. Kamala ran an impeccable ground game but her loss highlights the importance of charisma. I’ll be fair to her. The extreme circumstances of her campaign left her muzzled. She had to be careful with just about everything she said because it couldn’t veer too far away from Biden. I think she can be charismatic enough to win the office, but she struggled to connect with Americans.

3. The Dem party is at a crossroads. It needs to go back to policy, it needs to strip away platitudes and identity politics and sensationalism and just focus on solid policy making. Can it do that?

3.) I couldn’t disagree with this more, tbh. If Americans are willing to vote for Trump, they don’t give a **** about policy. Kamala literally had an 80 page economic proposal and was the only candidate that offered viable solutions to cost of living issues, yet voters still showed up for the tariff guy as “better for the economy” because vibes/nostalgia/post-COVID malaise

No matter how you try to explain it in a positive light, its still dictatorship to forcing people to engage in Democracy. There are positive and negative things about dictatorships, and you just explained the positive side of it. Its not a Democracy if you force people to engage in Democracy, choose one or the other.

Tbf, though I don’t necessarily agree with forcing people to vote, this would be an authoritarian policy in what could be an otherwise democratic state, not a “dictatorship.” A dictatorship is specially a system of government that is at the helm of one person that usually rules by force.

Yes I agree, if you red the rest of my comments, this is what I said:

"I did not call Brazil a dictatorship, I called the action of forcing people to vote is dictatorship. Almost all countries have some dictatorship laws, but it doesnt make the country a dictatorship.

Some dictatorship laws are a necessary evil that we cant get rid of, and an example of that would be vaccines or taxes. But forcing people to join the military is not a necessary evil we cant live without, and same applies to forcing people to vote."

I did read your comment and I still believe you’ve incorrectly used the term dictatorship.

Which goes back to Democrats failing to be the party that runs on policy. Kamala had many plans but her campaign ended up focusing too much on “Trump the felon” and uniting with Republicans (which ended being a complete waste of time).
This is the third election where their main message is “other side bad” instead of, “here’s what I can do for you.” And they only won 2020 because Covid wrecked the economy and enough people were mad at Trump.

People stayed home this election. The messaging from Democrats was not strong enough to convince them that they could make their lives better.

Okay so ill rephrase it by saying:

Forcing people to vote and engage in Democracy is an authoritarian policy that has no place in a Democracy

Do you disagree with how I rephrased it?

So is anyone still sick to their stomach from this? Because I am, I barely ate anything for like 1 week because of the stress before and the loss of faith in humanity after.

Fundamentally missing the point: if voters don’t care about Trump’s policy, they don’t care about policy period. I also think Harris’ campaign did a very good job of split screening her policy relative to his, the problem is: voters didn’t really listen. Maybe she could’ve juiced more base support, but not sure how. A lot of folks are insinuating that she didn’t play enough to the left, but if the overall electorate shifted about 2-3 points to the right, not sure how that would’ve helped.

Trump’s biggest campaign message was “look how much more you’re paying under Biden. I will make prices lower.” While completely hollow and superficial, that is in fact running on the idea of policy. Many Americans believed he would bring forth policy that will help them. He didn’t say how, but he said he was gonna do it.

People who aren’t chronically online or consume a lot of media are only going to retain the main message. You had one saying he was going to bring prices down, and you had another saying we’re not going back to Trump. The Democrats dropped the ball and they have to get back to policy first. Clearly, rants about morality are not enough, nor are they important to millions of people. They have to make policy their main message.

That’s sloganeering, it is literally the antithesis of policy. Policy requires specificity.

I don’t agree with writing it off as just sloganeering. He effectively linked tariffs to this vision later in the game. And that doesn’t change the fact that the Democrats were not able to make their main message about the people and what they were going to do for them. It relied too heavily on Trump being a morally reprehensible person.

Most people who voted for him on the basis of the economy couldn’t even tell you that tariffs were central to his policy, tbf. Also: I think you’re assigning coherence to the policy that wasn’t consistently present enough in his messaging to be considered successful. Either way, agree to disagree.
