She’s doing this strictly for the hardcore fans, and if we keep focusing on the chart positions we’re gonna lose sight of where she’s taking us with her art. She has a #2 song on the hot 100 right now.
StrawberryBlond 14,087
*sighs* At least it's top 40. And at least it debuted better than Katy's single. But her US fans are really dragging their heels, as are all her fans worldwide. Just 3 countries have debuted it in the top 10. After election, it stands a chance, I guess. I just hope her fans can show the same energy for it as Disease now that DWAS is on the rise. But I don't know how hard it is for her fans to stream on Spotify. Just do the same as you did for her last big hits like Shallow, ROM and you know...DWAS. I don't get why fans show up for some songs and not others. This is the lead single, folks. It's not the end by any means but every single matters.
Caldy 61
I think it's safe to say that Disease is not performing as well as we would have hoped for a lead single, and that's ok. I personally didn't enjoy the song and it is definitely not radio friendly nor is it in the realm of songs that the GP have come to love from Gaga. However, I do know many people that love it for how different it sounds compared to the rest of the current pop landscape. I also think that part of Disease's thunder is being stolen by DWAS, which is creating an unexpected problem for Gaga's team because they must now choose to promote one of the songs over the other. I suspect that it was expected that the hype for DWAS would have died out by this time and that Disease would be a hit as it was released at the same time as Halloween. However, DWAS has only grown in popularity and there is probably pressure from both Bruno and Gaga's record labels to promote it further now that it has the potential to reach #1. Gaga has never been in a position before in her career where a new lead was being overshadowed by a duet released weeks prior, not even during ASIB era. I also feel that the bad press of FAD may have negatively impacted her image, further contributing to the underperformance of this single. I think her team royally scr*wed up this release and it's kind of disappointing to see, especially after everything Gaga has been through. I really think her management should know better at this point, especially after being in the business for over 16 years now. I personally found it interesting that they would release new versions of DWAS and a live performance a few days after a completely new song. That being said, I am glad that she is in a place where she is happy again. I also think we need to stop saying "oh but she doesn't care about the charts, she is releasing what makes her happy". That is total BS, everybody cares about charts and this is no different. Edited November 5 by Caldy
gumzy3000 6,925
I'm not surprised. The song and music video were kind of boring. Gaga's past singles like Just Dance and Telephone, for example, were great songs and had great music videos. Disease seems like a pop song any singer could make nowadays and the music video was lacking. trolly troll troll 1 5

waterfall 783
i agree with whats mostly said above... it got overshadowed by DWAS. also whoever said the ballad comment is so right lowkey. i was wondering why rush released the lead... was it to take negative attention away from the joker? im not really sure, but i feel like this is alright, esepcially since there wasnt much promo. gaga announced so close to the date, it was hard to build up hype. and the competition is so strong now. im just happy we got new music (and kinda happy she didnt tease it too long and gave it to immediately which not many artists do nowadays. i think its gonna be like the cure like a standalone single.

Reality 71,870
I'm not saying this in a vindictive or malicious way, but I don't really care...And I feel like some people need to learn not to care too. I know it's heavily ingrained in stan culture to care about the charts and our fave's performances, but I genuinely couldn't care less that Disease isn't doing as well as we would like. Sure, in a perfect world she'd be #1 everywhere and everyone would be streaming the song and watching the video, but at this point, I'm more interested in the art than the charts. Disease is one of the most interesting songs she's released in a long time and judging from what we have so far, LG7 looks to be a return to form for Gaga in many ways. This sound and aesthetic is everything I've wanted from Gaga for a long time and even if it doesn't do well commercially, I couldn't be happier with it right now. LG7 could be her biggest flop, but from a purely artistic perspective, I'll still love it. Let's also remember that many of us wanted Gaga to return to this dark aesthetic and try to go for this industrial/electronic/dance/dark pop sound. That is frankly just not something much of the GP is interested in or can digest. We can't have it both ways: you can't expect smashing success when you have a sound/aesthetic similar to this. RichAssPiss 4,697
DWAS should honestly have been the sound for the album. Plotting a whole record around Bloody Mary being a meme was not the best decision. 11

The GP aren't aware of when she has a new single out and this one wasn't widely promoted like some of her previous leads were. The fans are largely the ones responsible for where a single lands on its debut week. That single performance shows the fans can't be streaming it that heavily. And the videos views and likes are shocking especially considering that DWAS did better in the first 24 hours than this song has in its first week. chromaticainmyhead 6,348
We have to face it: if you are a female performer, at a certain age, you will face and battle decline whether a male performer much rather faces more and more success with unstoppable measures. Especially if you're on the more 'theatre kid' side of type of performer it's even more difficult in her shoes I believe. Plus, Gaga is already in everybody's ears with DWAS and I feel like many are not so eager to go check out her other discography when she's still here as Lee. I guess patriarchy and the mix of her recent gigs plays a huge role on why her lead isn't leading the way to No1 fan-tas-tique, chic, freak, slaaaay
monstertoronto 8,748
When Gaga first came out with the darkga sounds and aesthetic it was such a change from what the GOmhad seen and she really made a huge impact by changing what people could expect from fashion visuals and pop. But then as we know, she inspired so many other popgirls in the years after that and outrageous fashion became the norm and her electropop sound also became the own for a hot minute. Years later this return to this type of sound is such a gift for fans but it’s not new and groundbreaking like it was before. It makes sense the impact would be less now. But it’s still an amazing song and video and we can be excited we have so much more to look forward to!
