Smile 2 discussion (spoilers)

I feel like "Smile 2" deserves its very own thread (just like the Substance, because I feel like they're not just your typical horror movie)

And I really need to let my thoughts out and talk about it with people who also liked it :vegas: (which I know exist here)

First of all, the first one has been my fav horror movie and this one is just as great as the first one, actually even better imo, because the character build was so strong in this one. I really felt for Skye, even though she was clearly flawed and not  a "perfect human being" which I loved. I don't like when characters are portrayed in a perfect light, as if they were perfect human beings, because nobody is.

And the point of view from a "star" is what makes it so interesting as well, because it's not your "every day life person"  (And the music and whole vibe/aesthetics slayed as well)

What also separates this film from other films is how they use shame and humiliation.. I'm thinking of the scene in the first movie where Rose's cat is in that package.. ( birthday present for her nephew) :bradley: That was horrific. And in this movie they did that again, which was when she did that speech and she said the name of her dead boyfriend and then accidentally pushed that old woman off stage. :saladga:

I don't think I need to say what a great performance Naomi gave, because everyone who's seen the movie can't deny, that she carried the whole movie on her shoulders and killed it in every scene!

The scene where she's in the car crying, after they just had the car crash, and she was injured, crying as she saw her dead bf... omg my blood froze because it felt so raw and real :omg:

The scene that startled me to death was when she was looking at her phone watching the video of the dude from the beginning... and then jumpscare :ladyhaha:

There's one scene that actually made me giggle, which was when she's in that hospital/clinic and her mom's dead on the floor (at least in her head) and she sees the blood on her clothes and uses a blanket to try and get it off :ladyhaha: as if that's gonna do anything

Some people on TT didn't really get the ending or the movie at all, because obviously things were happening in her head or at least the "outside people" could not see what was happening to her. I think she was hallucinating from where the entity basically goes onto her, but there were times in between where things were real and also things were happening in her head - like it was going back and forth, which is why in between they kept showing the world upside down which could represent the real world and the world in her head.

What was your favorite scene or the one that startled/impressed you the most?

I can't wait for the 3rd movie and I think it's gonna be intense, because there are so many people now who saw her die and who got "infected".

I agree, it was slightly better than the first!

Would have been cool to see Gaga in that role and Naomi in Joker 2, but I still loved it either way.

The whole sequence where she thought she murdered her mom and was trying to escape was crazy, I feel like i actually had nightmares like that.

I really enjoyed the sequel! Naomi Scott is definitely one of my favorite performances of the year (right next to Demi Moore in The Substance). If I had to pick the scene that scared me the most, it was that scene where the entity is the "old" version of Skye and the eyes of the entity are bulging while it's confronting Skye literally made me jump in my seat. There were actually quite a few well-used jumpscares throughout the entire movie. I'm really interested in where Parker Finn goes next with this franchise (especially with how Smile 2 ended) or if he does something new.

I'll also say that I think the EP they released is honestly a solid collection of songs. I keep finding myself going back to New Brain, Blood on White Satin, and Death of Me!

Yes I completely agree!! I felt her performance was so natural.. like sometimes actors say sentences in a way where I feel like a normal person wouldn't phrase or say it like this (or the intonation).. this sometimes bothers me in movies...  like when she said "God, I'm so fucking cold" when she was laying on that table in the freezer... that came out sooo natural.. or asking to see the needle and then going "wtf!" or "can you knock?!" I just feel like this is how people talk in everyday life, so I really liked that.

And yes, Demi was amazing in the Substance.. I need to watch that again because it was so good.

Yeah I didn't expect the eyes so that came as a surprise.. :D

Yeah totally! I recently saw a tiktok where someone said that in movies people always "get up" in bed when they had a nightmare and that in real life nobody does this... but the comment section was full of people saying they do this too.. and I've certainly done it a few times as well

Same for me! Actually I think it has become one of my favorite films ever... I just really like when a movie has mental stuff in it... things happening in people's heads etc.

Ohhh you mean this huh? :tony: Yeah a lot of people noticed on Social media hehe

I think they should do a Smile 3, but also another movie ( a prequel) about Skye Riley only... about her addiction, how she got famous (cuz obviously she's had problems all her life as she said in that cringe speech haha), about what happened with her and Paul (why they were fighting), her struggle with fame and what happened after the accident.. how they got her out of that car, her recovery and then having to deal with chronic pain (and that ripping out hair, which is why I believe she had long hair before and then she had a short hair cut...) I could write a whole script lol

There is SO MUCH potential with this character and the way Naomi portrayed her... they could make a thriller/drama out of this and tell her story, because Naomi killed it! (And gosh, that woman is naturally beautiful)

Oh and not to forget the music!! I've been listening to the mini album nonstop, because it's so good... I can't believe the quality of this compared to what Katy has put out... like this, as a side project of a movie of a fictional pop star, is 100000 times better than what Katy has done with 143 or whatever it was called.

They could also add more music for a potential next film

If they didn’t make another film I’d be satisfied with both smile 1 and 2 but I would be open for a 3rd! It was clear that the whole stadium caught it so my thoughts is that there could be an apocalypse or something! So many possibilities! I love your idea of Skye’s life pre fame and everything she went through, I’d be here for that but perhaps it could be a companion film to smile 2?

I’ve not stopped listening to the mini EP that is out at the moment, it’s amazing work I’m obsessed! I was also so impressed by the cinematography and scoring and the way the filmed some scenes were so awesome. I’m sure the first scene had no cutscenes and was filmed in one shot me and my brother was blown away. The way they would film upside down in the skyline! The ending credits were so spooky!

I also need to mention as soon as you think you’ve figured everything out in this movie there’s a big twist and that completely MESSED ME UP…

10/10 :applause:

Yes exactly... like I want the normal 3rd movie because obviously the whole audience is now "infected" and I'm sure Naomi has to be in this one too, at least with jumpscares, because in every movie you see the people who the entity killed haunt the main actors who have the curse...

but the movie about Skye Riley I would love to stand on its own in another genre basically.... like a proper prequel because her character is so interesting to me.

Me neither! The EP is amazing! My fav song is probably "Blood on White Satin" but I love them all.. also the piano version of "Just My Name" is soooo beautiful

Yeah there were a few scenes like that... also the one where she gets back to her apartment after meeting Morris where she drinks that whole water bottle and has that meltdown in the bathroom... that was one take and they had to do it several times. Imagine drinking so much water at once lol

Honestly, the whole sounddesign (not just the amazing pop songs) was so good & creepy!!!

and her screams were so good… also the crying after the accident in the car made me feel things… that was one of the most scary scenes for me because it felt way too real & car accidents happen every day & it could happen to any of us… this really shook me to the core

The jump scare when sky is watching the video of the drug dealer, looking in the dark corner and then jump scare that was actually one of the best jump scares ever. Also I really liked the part of the end where those eyes got big and the mouths opened was creepy and the monster at the end is freaking horrific.

It made me feel things too, it was so scary that It was almost an out of body experience. It made me really think deeply about things! Yes I agree the car accident scene was awful (in the best way possible), because it could happen to anyone it shook me up :kry:
