Hideo Kojima, legendary game developer known for the Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding series, is also a notable celebrated cinephile and famously posts his reviews on Twitter. Here's what he had to say about Joker: Folie a Deux.

"I watched "Joker: Folie à Deux.” The beginning of the film is an animation sequence, reminiscent of the nostalgic "Looney Tunes", depicting a story of Joker and Joker’s shadow. In the trial that follows, the question of his multiple personality is argued from beginning to end. Is the Joker Arthur? Is the Joker another personality (his shadow)? Who exactly is Arthur? This revelation eventually transforms into a meta-perspective. In the previous film, “Joker,” was it really Joker who captivated audiences around the world? Or was it Arthur? This question is constantly raised to Lee and even to the people of Gotham City within the film. We live in an age of mass production of "poetic justice" heroes, a battle between good and evil. Lately, many spin-off films with a focus on the villains have been made. Can villains be superheroes too? Is this question posed on the big screen as a DC movie, too avant-garde? Was it the Joker that audiences around the world loved? Was it Arthur? This is where the reviews have diverged. Over the next 10 or 20 years, this film's reputation will likely change along with the permeation of hero movies to come. It may take some time for it to become a true "folie à deux.” But there is no doubt that everyone in the audience loved Joaquin and Gaga in this film 🤡"

This is huge! Beyond his words, films he doesn't like get short reviews, and this one is definitely not that. Nerds listen to him; this may usher in the end of the hate train as FAD has been recently released on digital.

I'd also like to toot my own lil horn a bit and say his words echo mine that I've been posting here since the day of the LA premiere. Taste is subjective, but hearing it from someone like Kojima feels good  :ally:

this is great news, he has big influence over the gaming world, i bet many of his "fans" will be shocked by this, good on him for sharing his honest opinions, he always seemed a very down to earth and kind person, this kind of validates my feelings towards him.

I always look forward to his reviews and they are always spot on! I am so happy he loved the movie. If a mastermind like Kojima loves something, then it must be good.

Also, I am super stoked he praised Gaga. Would love to see her in one of his projects :firega:

Until then, this is Elvira saying unpleasant dreams.

Really love and appreciate his take on the film, especially the animated intro. It reveals a lot about the film.

Absolutely. It was really shocking to see people not even trying to understand it. People are so easily influenced nowadays

I honestly dont know who this guy is..but im very happy. I was dismayed too, but a lot of people who watched it the second or more times... made them think more of the movie and it became a good film for them. I hope that not only him, and other great ones are satisfied with the film....but also the good award giving bodies. If like Oscars gave them a bunch of noms, and hopefully some wins.... then it's a slap to many faces :laughga:
