Why does Perfect Illusion have mixed reactions among the fan base?

Why is Perfect Illusion decisive among the fan base? It's my second favorite Gaga songs...

LG5 was hyped by fans as a return to RedOne produced pop, and then it turned out to be very different.

I think it's because it gave the fandom whiplash when it first came out. It was the highly anticipated era after ARTPOP after all. I know it did for me—the whole Joanne era did—though I love the song and the album now.

I love perfect illusion so much. The instrumental, the high energy video, that desert scenario that matches the song vibe, the vocals with the key change… It’s cathartic and definitely an underestimated bop in her discography. Way way better than stupid love (that, at least for me, it’s her only bad lead single)

I remember some people expecting Disco for LG5 because of the I Want Your Love cover and the Giorgio Moroder collab(s) that never happened. 

Also, like it was mentioned before in this thread, some fans were also expecting RedOne X Gaga songs (besides the Angel Down work tape) 

Personally, I loved Perfect Illusion because it came right at time for me. I escaped a cult and the situation was definitely giving “Perfect Illusion” for me.

I love them both in their own ways, but PI is just so electric. I truly scream the lyrics in the car.

I woke up early on the day of the release of the song, and then went to work, and forced my coworkers to listen to it over and over. That key changed me!

It’s super electric, I also scream the lyrics in the car! Stupid Love would be nice as a cute track in the album, but I didnt like it as the lead. The chorus is very overwhelming compared to other Gaga songs. But I have to give credit to the vocals on this track. Also the energy on stupid love is really fun and care free.  But I wish Alice was the lead In Chromatica.

I remember pirating a live stream of Scream Queen's for the MV premiere. (Both Perfect Illusion and Scream Queens are underrated.)   And I love both.
