Bernie Sanders comments on Gaza & Kamala Harris

This just came up on my fyp and I thought it provided interesting insight on this topic, since I’ve seen a lot of comments on here saying Americans shouldn’t vote for Kamala Harris because they feel like she and Biden haven’t done enough to help stop the war or help victims, etc. I think Bernie made some excellent points.

People who aren't voting for Kamala solely because of the conflict in Gaza are incredibly naive. It is totally valid and right to call out the Biden administration for how they continue to perpetuate the genocide in Gaza; however, a Harris administration =/= a Biden administration and it seems like Kamala is generally more receptive to progressive policies than Biden. She is someone who can be pressured more in that sense.

The election is a binary choice and on the other end, you have someone who would be 10x worse on Gaza. Get Kamala in office and then pressure her to enact progressive policies.

if people can't deal with voting for Harris because they have personal family trauma from her decisions I get that, but even then, we all need to consider the great privilege we have to vote, and that it's going to either be Harris or Trump in the oval office after this election.

Yeah this. We also need to recognize that the genocide could come to the US if Trump is elected. Remember, the Holocaust was not only in occupied German territories. Countries aligned with Germany regularly deported people to Germany to be put in death camps. Trump has promised that he would deport people that are pro-Palestine. If he is elected, then the Levant will no longer be the only place in which this genocide is happening.

Okay, he's making extra excellent points and I do understand where he's coming from.

First, no matter who wins, the US will always support Israel. No discussion about this.

However, Kamala did speak about Palestinians, did recognize the genocide happening and referred to it as genocide, did call for a ceasefire. I mean, if the extremists officials in Netanyahu's government are upset with her, it says something about her after all.

Trump is openly against Palestinians. He used "Palestinian" as a slur to insult Biden during their debate. He said he told Netanyahu to "go finish the job" referring to the genocide. He talks to Netanyahu and advices him against a ceasefire. If he wins, Gaza will be turned into a parking lot the next day.

How do you get worse than the present situation? 
 

Sure Biden is sending humanitarian aid but he’s also providing the arms and the funds that have put Gazans in this very situation. I mean the Obama administration increased Israeli funding, and before leaving abstained from voting on resolution 2334. I was watching Bad Faith podcast , and Noura Erakat, a Palestinian-American activist, even mentioned how the Biden-Harris administration cut UNRWA funding. Kamala’s team has explicitly said they have no intention of an arms embargo, and she’s now touting Israeli and American propaganda that Iran is our greatest threat. Seeing how she’s cozying up to the Cheney’s and some of the other biggest war-mongering conservatives (remember when **** Cheney was called a Nazi, and now Democrats are applauding his daughter who sided with trump on every issue except Jan.6??) it’s clear she and Trump will behave similarly, with the caveat that her language will be far more subtle and diplomatic, while trump uses Palestinian as a slur — but they’ll behave the same. 52% of Republicans aged 18-29 support a ceasefire and arms embargo compared to 62% of Democrats within the same demographic, so both sides have a massive chunk of voters protesting this issue and the candidates are ignoring them. So I don’t see any pressure working on either candidate.

Now if these words came from Kamala herself she could absolutely bring back in a majority of Arab American votes, which about half are leaning trump, she might also reach independents, disaffected liberals, and as the polls show, she might even attract republicans who want the war to stop.

sadly the whims of Israel really drive this country … I don’t think anyone should discount people’s resentment towards voting for Harris. I mean people are having their own flesh and blood killed, and we’re seeing Israel attacking all neighboring regions, and desperately wanting to drag us into a war with Iran (which then brings in Russia and China). It’s a privileged position to tell Arab Americans how to feel when they’re seeing their own slaughtered in collaboration with someone who’s running for President.

sadly nothing can be done about this issue, and we’re all complicit in this genocide, one way or another … on the topic of Israel vs Gaza there’s no good guy between the two parties

I mean if trump wins it’ll be wiped in a day - if Kamala wins it’ll be wiped over another year, considering the current administration. There’s no good option.

 

as far as Kamala admitting it’s a genocide - I haven’t seen that.  I did see right wing accounts and journalists flipping out that she agreed with its consideration as a genocide — but watching the footage, she never acknowledges it as such…

in fact her campaign came out and explicitly said that she did not nor does not agree that israel is commiting genocide :

she just told the protestor she was speaking and kicked him out , like with most Palestinian protestors at her rallies.

If the Arab-American votes matter that much to them, then the Biden administration can simply stop the genocide, and get those votes. If it does not matter, then this is a non-issue and the rabid liberals should simply shut the **** up about it. 

Either way, there is no point in trying to make an argument like “but Trump would be worse”. What is worse than genocide, more genocide? If I were a voter, the sheer entitlement of the democrats would be more than enough for me to say **** it and become an accelerationist.
