I definitely disagree that her voice is pretty mediocre.  But that's subjective so I ain't gonna argue it.

Whats special about Chappell Roan is that she's a queer woman making pop music and that pop music is putting queer womens experience out there. Like traditional hit the dancefloor pop. Which tbh does make it different to the pop music we've heard before.

How many other lesbians/queer women exist specifically in pop that are out & sing about experiences as a queer woman? Billie is the only one I could name.  Gaga is bi but it's been about 10 years since we last had a song where she's in some way acknowledged this explicitly like Sexxx Dreams. Every other queer female singer I could name isn't pop or mainstream either (and are definitely older than Gen Z).
So like that's a big part of it. Chappell gives the pop loving Lesbians someone to stan for that is actually gay like them so they don't have to invent narratives to make the music gayer like they do with Taylor Swift lol

and she just seems like a rude person, 80% of her interactions whether it be the media or her fans, have been pretty negative. the only people she seems nice to are celebs who are bigger than her

She’s basically the queer artist that slipped through the straight net. So her music feels extra exciting and fresh to the GP.

I think she’s great, but the GP are overhyping her when they could be also discovering similar artists like Caroline Kingsbury, Caroline Polachek, Rina, MUNA et.

Why is there always a thread about Azealia Banks’ many opinions on something or someone?

My question is…why do yall constantly pardon her behavior? The only reason she gets attention is because the gays with selective outrage constantly post her homophobic and irrelevant opinions in forums such as this.  She hates us.

Because ppl love drama and Azealia is a buffet parade that goes 24/7 nonstop.

Just think her as the female Kanye West, but instead of music, her output is beef. As long as it's entertaining, all is forgiven.

I do NOT like Azealia but honestly, this is probably what Chappell - a very young woman with mental health issues and new to fame, who burst onto the scene when she least expected to and is overwhelmed - needed to hear. I know I certainly would.

But I’m a little concerned about the fact that I’ve been agreeing with some of AB’s takes recently.. :triggered:

edit: nvm I opened Twitter straight after this and the first thing I saw was someone quoting a sh*tty tweet of hers :vegas:

That's a... very ineresting alternative to the f-slur. I've seen a lot of this  new-wave homophobia online lately but this one takes the cake for most creative

Had to admit, it took me at least an hour to work out what she even meant. And I started to think she was referring to older people because your sex life becomes less spontaneous and more reliant on certain factors like what time it is and when you last ate and I thought she meant it was a case of "not right now, I need to let my dinner settle for a while before I can think about anything strenuous." Then the real meaning of it hit me. Taking so long to get it confirms that I'm definitely straight. :smh:

What about Hayley Kiyoko, Demi Lovato, Halsey, Kehlani? There are many more as well. I don't believe you need to be very explicitly out with your lyrics, as long as you promote your orientation, people will know you're singing about girls. Not being too specific is what has allowed songs about being gay to be more popular because they don't mention genders in the lyrics, so it could be about anyone. Most gay men like female popstars because they sing about boys. Even though those women are singing about straight relations, the lyrics still work for gays, it's all about how you personally interpret it.
