The theme of the night was abortion. Texas has some of the strictest abortion laws in the country, complete with a bounty put on the heads of women who travel to other states for healthcare and representatives open to the death penalty for doctors who provide abortions.

Tonight's goal was about driving the turnout among women in hopes of electing Collin Allred to the senate, ousting Ted Cruz, and pushing Texas just a bit more to the left.

Powerful stuff

Thankful for Beyoncé's commitment to putting her name out there next to Kamala and fighting for an issue that's defined elections since Trump's supreme court appointments removed women's constitutional right to privacy and bodily autonomy.

More than 1.5 MILLION people registered to attend tonight's rally and that's why celebrity endorsements are important.

I'm just taking a "make the best of what we've got" approach tbh. I don't find anything about Kamala particularly off putting other than her role in the Biden administration in relation to the Israel/Gaza situation. I hope she adopts a different policy than Biden does, even though I don't personally see a lot of practical wiggle room. Rhetorically, she's much tougher on Israel than him so I hope that translates to policy. But even if it doesn't, she won't make it worse, and the only other option is a guy that wants to nuke the place  

Not to ramble (jk that's my favorit)  but in some random podcast this morning a guy basically validated my grievance with a lot of Americans leftists. He said "they prefer principle without power over power without principle" and I just can't help but think forward one or two years when, God forbid, Trump wins and immigrants are being put in concentration camps, women have zero bodily autonomy and are dying preventable deaths by the thousands, being openly queer is a felony, elections are completely rigged and falsified, every bit of climate change policy in this country is torn apart, prices explode from trade wars started by Trump, Nazism is normalized in the US, Putin steamrolls Ukraine, Israel deals a death blow to Palestine once and for all and wages all out war on its neighbors with zero negotiations possible...

And my mind's eye pans over to the generic American leftist watching all of this and patting themselves on the back for not voting for Kamala 'cause she wasn't good enough for them

Beyond the fact that I was raised conservative and had to claw my way to the left, it's that kind of thinking that keeps me grounded in the center-left which is where the vast majority of the Democratic party is. And, for now, that works for me  I'll take incremental change over burning it all down tbh.

Also, I always get hyper patriotic in election years, I love this sh*t

Oh it would just be absolutely delicious. 

It’s the rural areas that are holding us back. The cities and surrounding suburbs are all blue now and slowly getting more blue each election.

Have you seen that Contrapoints video on Envy? Wouldn't be surprised if you didn't - she's not for everyone and also it 2 and half hours long. But there's this great segment where she talks about the idea of the idea of power and how many people, especially left-leaning people, have this idea that *any* amount of power is bad and corrupting. The cliche of "absolute power corrupts absolutely" really be doing some damage. She cites MLK when he said (and I might be getting the order wrong so...paraphrasing?) "Love without power is sentimental and anemic. Power without love is reckless and abusive."

I'm sure I'm bastardizing her point, I haven't seen the video in well over a year. But it stuck with me that those with left-leaning politics need to pick their battles and compromise for least harm rather than cut their nose to spite their face. 

Also, leftists parties are just...so disappointing. I was so excited when I heard about the Democratic Socialists of America until I started digging into the actual organizations and their weird, personal crap. In fairness, I don't at the moment recall what put me off so much about them, but its left such a bad taste in mouth that I know its not something petty.
