Obsessed. It's the direction I've been wanting her to go in since BTW. Didn't connect to ARTPOP because I felt like she outgrew the pop culture satire stuff, songs like Donatella, Fashion!, Applause, Jewels & Drugs, DWUW didn't resonate or entice me. All the music she was teasing during the lead up to ARTPOP was nowhere to be found. The complextro electronic techno she was talking about wasn't well executed, almost at all. I enjoyed Venus, G.U.Y., Sexxx Dreams [though preferred the festival version], Swine, loved the production on MJH but the lyrics were a snooze for me.  When Perfect Illusion came out, I was intrigued because of Kevin Parker and I thought we were going to go in a psychedelic rock vibe. Besides John Wayne, Diamond Heart, Angel Down, Dancin in Circles, I didn't care for the album. Chromatica was exciting but Stupid Love was horrendous to me. Lyrically another regression from the writing on BTW. It honestly should've not made the album. I love 90s house and I feel like she played it very safe. I Still very much love the album. Minus SL. Now, Disease, that's who I feel is Gaga at the most Gaga she can be. It's dark, catchy, but sultry. It's In your face and loud but a little coy. I'm so excited for what's next. 90s grunge core a la Garbage, Hole, Sneakerpimps is what it's serving but with a Gaga pop twist.

Do you miss "love it when he calls me legs, in the morning buy me eggs"?

Or maybe "slap honey on a young pancake"

Perhaps you really miss the depth of "light me up put me on top, let's falalalalala".

Personally, I think her best point of view was the entirety of this spectacular and revolutionary verse: "Walk down the runway, but don't puke, it's okay
You just had a salad today, boulangerie
Just ask your gay friends their advice before you
Get a spray tan on holiday in Taipei"

How can we forget "CAKE LIKE LADY GAGA"

Idk I just feel like we really need to start existing within the context

Of all in which you live and what came before you

Its insane that every Gaga song will forever be compared to THEEEEE Bad Romance like it’s just not fair to compete… But Disease is perfect I love it. I’ve wanted this exact sound from Gaga literally since 2013, I can’t believe we’re actually getting it.

If we’re getting nit-picky I think there could’ve been a harder/more intense bridge (aka GUY) but that doesn’t make the final song any less amazing.

For me the what I realized today after listening to the song and being kind of underwhelmed by it (emphasis on kind of, not totally) is that she after Chromatica and Joanne became too soft in terms of producing and song-writing. With soft I mean that she's probably not going back to the days of ARTPOP with being so unhinged because it quite literally put her career on the line. With BTW she had her peak in costumes and being 100% devoted to the character she embodied during an era but also lived as it, to me more than during ARTPOP, where she so openly and playfully "exhibited" herself that way. And while this era today may be pointing in the direction of TFM or BTW I realized I have to let go of the expectation that her lyrics, her persona and I don't know how to say it but her youthfulness in her art from back then which also included an innocence in being so dark that was so heavily combined with the momentum of fame and everyone obsessing over her during that time which created that kind of magic, all of this cannot be expected to come back when she now choses to release a record that is reminiscent of that era. While I am sad over the fact that no new record ever again will probably reinforce that kind of feeling that I had from that time back in the day, I can still celebrate and be surprised by what is coming because certainly she is trying to reconnect with her roots and that is, above all, the most important and exciting thing to me coming out of this project.

I’m trying to like it. It has some catchy elements. But it does in fact remind me of Born this Way album.

Born this way album was not her best. She needs to have a fame monster renaissance. That was her best work. Born this way had singles that didn’t chart very well and had way too many fillers. I really wish she would advance sometimes. I am hopeful for this single and it’s video. A lot of the time, the video really ties it together for me. I hope her album has more current sounds to it.

I love it! :tony:

Especially the second half :firega:

It's not my top favorite lead of hers, probably 3 or 4, only because the first half to me is a lil boring/basic in melody -but the second half? LOVE!!

The production is really good as well and makes me sooo excited to hear the rest of the album :woot:

I really love it. Wish the chorus maybe was a little better but God what a banger this is.

I have to 100% disagree.

Born This Way pushed Gaga creatively than we've ever seen before. She has not come close to this since now. She helped curate every track and can pin point influences and sounds they used. She was involved every step of the way. From the wedding bells in MTN, to the deep voice chants in BM, to using auto tune in a fun way on HML, to the organ in Highway Unicorn, the saxophone in Hair and TEOG, to the immigration laws in AZ that helped influence Americano. Born This Way The album is an album no one can come close to making. It cannot be imitated. That was peak Gaga. This new era, she seems to be doing exactly what she wants, how she wants and I'm so excited to see her be exactly that. Herself.

I hate it. I had such high hopes but it's so musically simplistic and lyrically cliche. She honestly put more craft into the arrangements of Harlequin than this. As with Chromatica, her pop career really feels like punching the clock and recycling her past work (without the passion).

Definitely a grower on first listen. After a good few listens, it's growing steadily. It's above average for sure, heading towards solid. The opening tone sounds like Alice, does no one else hear it? Some cliche lines that sound like lyrics from other songs so hopefully there won't be any plagiarism accusations. Only line that annoys me is "lay you down like 123" because how is laying down a 3 step process? I would've changed it to "lay you down nice and easy" but other than that, the lyrics are fine. I'm gradually ok with the "aah aah's" in the chorus but was unsure initially. The beat goes hard, love the "screaming for me baby, like you're gonna die" bit and when she growls "like a god without a prayer" is a YAAASSS moment. It's like a pop version of Nine Inch Nails. It perfectly bridges the gap between generic and experimental to create a space where it could easily become a hit.

It will really come into its own with the music video and it's going to SLAP live. And, as is usually the case with Gaga, I know her album tracks will be better than the lead single. The lead is just to pull the GP in so she plays it a bit more safe. Even the second single alone could sound a whole lot better. I'm getting better vibes than I did for Chromatica, I feel this album will be a step up. Reviews are awesome, this will lead to her first ever album rated in the 80's or higher, I can feel it.

Okay, so now I’ve listened to it loud (multiple times) in the car it has actually really grown on me. The amount of influences I didn’t hear on the first listen has me gobsmacked. I can hear some Judas, Bad Romance, Haus Labs Babylon, Government Hooker, Bloody Mary and a hint of Replay

It’s also giving major MJH vibes in the production :legend:

Its not a 3 step process, I think she’s counting down, like giving someone a sedative that’ll have them asleep in 3… 2… 1…
