It’s not necessarily that they’re trying to save their asses, they just want to get it right. Historically, Trump is a hard candidate to poll. This cycle they’re betting on a strong Trump showing. They gave Hillary an 85% chance to win in 2016 and Trump blew her out They said Obama and Romney were tied in 2012 on election day and Obama blew him out Pollsters are just bullsh*tting tbh. Their models and metrics are beyond trash this time around and couldn't assess the current state of the race, let alone be used to predict the outcome.
