question

Is the gap between lead and album too big?

no

it really depends on how the singles do

if the lead is huge, this is perfect way to build hype and it will give it space for it to smash more

if it underperforms, Gaga can def push out another single

It's a good thing. Letting singles breathe before an album is a good strategy. DWAS's consistency and growth over 9 weeks just shows how relevant Gaga still is and how much longevity she has. A build-up of one or two successful singles can do wonders for an album release, first week sales will be great. I think one single followed by an album 2 months later may be good for reducing piracy and helping people's lower attention spans but first week sales are usually dire because that's not much room for hype. Gaga's been doing the classic album rollout since day one and it continues to work for her. Trust the process.

No, the gap between the teaser announcement and the single release is. I think maybe she was going to this week before the news about Liam came out. In that case, I fully understand why it would have been delayed.

She'll release a second single and talk about the album as time goes by, plus I think she will reprise Harlequin with the secret concert she filmed, since she mentioned having more eras going on at once in one of her latest interviews

BTW had a 3 month gap (Feb to May) and this one will be 4 (Oct to Feb). But during the Born This Way gap, she was SUPER busy. She was still on tour for the Monster Ball, she released 3 singles and gave each of them music videos, she gave a lot of TV interviews and performances, gave us GagaVision, etc. I think that’s what made those 3 months bearable for all of us. Now if she doesn’t do that same level of activity for the 4 month LG7 gap… it can work against her. People will lose interest and the hype will die down. But I have faith that she has big plans for this album rollout. Right now she is very silent but I believe it is the calm before the LG7 storm.

I’m not really familiar with the industry these days, but back in the day that was common practice, wasn’t it? As of late it seems a bit more random, but I guess it leaves time for a 2nd single to promote the album.

Radical Optimism, for example, really felt like a big gap.

Just Dance (Apr. 2008) The Fame (Aug. 2008) 5 months gap, it slayed

Bad Romance (Oct 2009) TFM (Nov. 2009) 1 month gap, it slayed

Born This Way (Feb. 2011) BTW (May 2011) 4 months gap, it slayed

Applause (Aug. 2013) ARTPOP (Nov. 2013) 4 months gap, it kinda underperformed

Perfect Illusion (Sep 2016) Joanne (Oct 2016) 1 month gap, it didnt slay

Shallow (Sep 2018) ASIB (Oct 2018) 2 weeks gap, it slayed

Stupid Love (Feb 2020 [leaked since Jan]) Chromatica (May 2020 [Originally planned for Apr.]) 4 months gap, it had moderate success

In conclusion, releasing the album shortly aftet the lead doesnt guarantee success and releasing it months apart doesnt mean 100% a comercial failure either

Exactly. I'm thinking/hoping that's the plan.

Traditionally, it’s actually pretty standard. It doesn’t seem any longer than usual :haroon:

I think that's because they kept throwing singles and they all flopped. If one of them stuck, they definitely would have released the album earlier

That makes sense, especially as her monthly listeners will be at an all time high once LG7 actually drops

I think it's pretty usual for Gaga to release the lead single months before the album. She may also release a second single, depending on how good performs the first single. In my opinion I wish she make a surprise release but she has never done that though.  :poot:
