Why the basic white girlie songwriter type gaining traction rn?

I been trying to get into to Gracie abrams lately cuz she been on the rise. My roommate went to see her live a few days ago and i seen the genz hype her up. but I don’t get why cuz she is very very ordinary girl. Nothing there that stands out. 

What has taylor done to the industry smh with the singer songwriter indie girl voice thing and endorsing these blands. I’m tired but now looking back at least taylor switches things up ig every few years. 

Like why does it have to be about race? I mean I understand you might not like that type of music but white womwn have been singer songwriters forever. Are you just now hearing about this? Makes no sense to make this about race.

I'm not even the biggest fan of Taylor Swift and there are better songwriters active today like Adriane Lenker but by the standards of a mainstream pop artist, Taylor is an excellent lyricist, what other big name star could have written Folklore? These "relatable" female artists that appeal to a white girl audience are only overrated as songwriters if you start comparing them to legends like the media is always doing

The success of "relatable" songwriters like Taylor or Phoebe Bridgers is very understandable and well deserved in my opinion. Now Gracie Abrams is a different story because I have never thought her music offers anything unique.

I think her biggest advantage is that her lyrics have always reflected her life. Fearless was written in 2007 when she was in high school, and then 1989 got released in 2014 when she moved NYC and went fully into pop. People literally grew up with her and related to her different life stages along the way.

Her influence is huge so I can see why others are copying her style. I don't see how it's basic though. I think she is one of the best songwriters of this generation. 

And she/her team are excellent at marketing and PR, which is a whole other thing that deserves to be studied. Undoubtedly this has helped her a lot.

funny how you’re calling out "double standards" but then doing the same thing by judging artists who express themselves differently. i get these new girlies ordinary and relatable and stuff but like doja/megan etc had to bring put mega talent etc to reach that level. like at look their performances, its crazy. @NCgaga thats all i was trying to say. no hate.

u just proving what someone else above said how people just think basic production and "raw" lyrics are real "art" so it makes the person feel like they have superior taste since its classy ig

This thread is about the surge in white female singer-songwriters because literally like 99% of those artist are white, it has nothing to do with white people in general obviously. It was an observation and a fact, and you’re are trying to make it seem racist when it’s not.

Doja, Meghan, Lizzo and Sza all make different types of music. So you’re generalizing black female artists. This post is about a specific genre, which white women are dominating in rn, it’s not about white artists. If Doja, Meghan, Lizzo, SZA, etc. were all making the same type of music, your argument could be valid. But it’s not about genre for you, it’s about the race of the artist.

They are all echoes of Lana, you would think after 13 years that artist mold would have fade off but since 1989 and specially Folklore/Evermore she’s evolved that mold and made it a bit more synth pop and here we are until a new artist catches attention being different from that mold

And they know that yes, #1 i do think it’s boring and #2 i hate sad girl vibes so much with a burning passion that i just like, ugh but you have to remember that yes i do think Rare is the best album i’ve ever heard, and that comes with it’s own set of assumptions. 
And yes, i know i may just be living in my house thinking of how in the world, she decided to release the most quality album ever.

NOTHING is going to beat, listening to the Rare demo for a year and a half and then hearing Selena singing for the first time and already knowing the song. It’s just that good.

I have honest opinions about this but I'm not gonna say it. If I did, I'd probably ended up getting bullied and harrassed like what happened to me recently on that Gaga-related Discord thread.
