Wong grew up in San Francisco, the youngest of four, to a Vietnamese mother and a Chinese-American father. “I was pretty quiet around my family,” she says, which she knows can be hard to reconcile with the woman strutting on stage in all of her no-holds-barred glory. “I think sometimes still, but especially when I first started, they were like, Who is this person? But I see one of my daughters now and everyone's like, She's like you right now. And it's true. She's free. She's like I think how I would have been as a child if I was encouraged to be a little more free.”
