That’s why Todd Phillips cut her screen time…she was getting close to the truth

I thought this excerpt from the article was interesting

“Joker: Folie à Deux” also may have suffered from not having Bradley Cooper’s voice at the table. Cooper, who was a producer on 2019’s “Joker” and is known for his commercial instincts including his low-budget hit “A Star Is Born” with Gaga, was not involved with the sequel after dissolving his producing partnership with Phillips in 2021.

I didn’t know Bradley produced the first Joker movie so when I googled it I found this

“We kept this one pretty close to us,” Groth said when asked about test screening the film. “We screened it more personally for people and filmmakers. Bradley Cooper definitely came in a couple of times. He was a producer on the movie, but he definitely watched the movie many times and sat with us. We could call him if we got stuck with something and be like, ‘Hey, can you come over and take a look at things?’”

Groth continued, “He doesn’t miss a thing. He would watch stuff and he would pick out even some of the smallest things. He was definitely a huge help. I think he’s got a lot more experience in editing than most people would realize.”

If only he was still involved with the sequel :bradley:

Yes, also he was nominated for Best Picture in 2019

Robo Ga

The LACK of diverse settings (90% of the movie is courthouse or prison) is what pissed me off about this movie the most, it is so ridiculous that they blew 200 mil here and this was the result

It's pretty safe to say the Oscars discussion died a week ago. At this point, I'm only hoping the Razzies won't be beating this dead horse.

When it comes to acting, the movie doesn't have to be good to get an Oscar nomination. There have been actors nominated for their acting in movies where the acting was the only good thing about it. Glenn Close won a lot of awards for The Wife, a film whose only accolades were regarding her acting. The movie that she got nominated for best supporting actress, Hillbilly Elegy, had a 25% on RT and a 38 on MC. Her performance also got her a Razzie nomination for worst supporting actress (this isn't even the first time this has happened - getting nominated for best and worst simultaneously). The film also got a few more Razzie noms and made just $38k in theatres next to a $45 million budget. It really does not matter how good the rest of the movie is, what the public reaction to it is or how much money it makes. The academy only care about the acting and critics reviews all praise Gaga and say she's the best thing about the movie and it's that kind of response that acting awards tend to come from, particularly in a show-stealing supporting actress moment. In most cases, the supporting award tends to go to those who put in a better and more memorable performance than the leads.

Maybe a Best Original Song nom for the waltz 🤞

She won't get the nom for original songs cos the original songs from Harlequin album are not played within the movie.

Because of his ego, everyone else dealing with this project have to suffered the consequences, directly and/or indirectly. That is not bad ass, that is weak and selfish af.  F this guy honestly :franminervini:

Not really. Gaga and Joaquin will get roles. Studios will be hesitant to greenlight stuff by Todd though.

Folie à Deux (Original song) is in the movie.

For like, 20 seconds.

This is my only issue with the film. This scene infront of the beautiful big blue moon doing this waltz should have been at least 2-3 minutes of screentime to allow her to sing more of the song.

The melody that you choose can rescue you ♥

Joaquin is already labeled as liability by agencies after dropping out of a movie last minutes, costing the studios millions in loss, just weeks before JFAD Venice premiere, and now this JFAD box office performance will make it worse, considering  this sequel is also his idea, it is well documented in media.

Gaga will get offers for roles, but probably not as many as she had before. She will need to be more careful for her next movie, it will likely be make or break for her after 2 not very satisfactory, both money and accolades wise, movies back to back. Hollywood is very cut throat.

Sure, but the current discussion is more about how cruelly underused she is in the film rather than how mind blowing her performance is. I think it’s quite obvious we can forget about the Oscars - if she didn’t get a nom for House of Gucci, she won’t get one for this, let’s be real.

That's her chance to get an Oscar next year... They have to campaign for it tho. I hope they do.

Right? How can you f*ck up so badly that you don't even properly use the only original song in a movie you decided to make a musical?

Bradley

Todd Phillips's logic:

- makes a DC movie but not wanting it to honour the DC franchise and universe

- hires Lady Gaga, one of the most powerful and influential celebrities in the world but not wanting to give her scenes with real agency and character development
