Why are some users going as far as SA?? Improvising in film is not the same as live improv. "Improvising" just means it wasn't in the script before and they decided to do it while on set. And that means informing the actors what's gonna happen, the director, the camera people... they had to block that shot especially since Gaga had to walk back down the steps to meet the woman.

I hate Todd Phillips as much as the next liddo currently, but some of you are making a mountain out of a molehill again and this angle has to stop before people pick this up outside of this forum.

Nite

Did anyone else go back to the articles of when this scene was filmed, I'd forgotten about this liddo :volantis:

“I climbed up on that pillar up there,” she claimed, pointing to a courthouse column, “and my dumb ass grabbed Lady Gaga by the shoulders.” During the next take, Emily said she apologized to the star, who she claimed was “really nice about it.”

“My whole goal was to try and get her to sign my boob, and then I was going to get it tattooed if she did it. But I ended up getting way too in the moment.” She said that, after being removed from the set, she decided to return to the scene of the crime the next day, disguised in a wig and sunglasses.

How would you then explain that Joaquin Phoenix got to scrap scenes and rewrite them in their trailer by themselves shortly before shooting them?

Couple of things:

1. This scenario you’re describing has nothing to do with improvising on set. Script rewrites happen all the time during a shoot, and can often change on the daily (indicated by colours usually - so one day you’ll be on yellow script, then next week you might be on the pink draft etc.) This is not improvisation, it is a planned change.

2. Once again, the media will make statements like “shortly before shooting” but we have absolutely no evidence that that actually was the case. He could’ve made edits days in advance with Todd and they could easily call that “shortly before”.

3. Even if it did happen the way they describe, it still wouldn’t be improvisation. And most certainly nothing to do with what people are insinuating that Gaga did in this scene. Actors generally do not improvise on the day or in the moment, and if they do, it’s incredibly small details (not kissing an extra unplanned). Film sets are way, way more technical and routine than people think.

I already thought it was a bit too much when Arthur kissed the lawyer, as he had already kissed the old lady at Murray's show to shock people. Having this a third time would have been ridiculous. But y'all will jump on anything to hate the movie.

I've bashed Todd on this site plenty but he's not in the wrong for this lol. All actors know that 90% of what they did will end up getting cut and they are not entitled to even a tiny portion of say in what makes it to the screen.

Yep. That's entirely logical. In fact, there are probably Oscar wiinners who owe their win to the fact that the director cut a chunk of what they did.

MANiCURE 6

The issue with this movie is that it's written against the people who liked the first one.

Of course everyone wants to see the Joker... because Arthur Fleck is a really boring character at the end of the day. Especially in this second movie where all he does is being there.

Gaga is amazing but her character is poorly written and we never really know her or her motivations. And he cut a lot of her scenes so...
