you're forgetting the fact that so many movies that were "flops" became cult classics and earned way more money via streaming, dvd sales, and also merch deals.

by these metrics all david lynch films were actually loss-leaders at studios, so why would they keep funding him?

Lynch movies aren't produced as blockbusters with a huge budget, they are arthouse movies, and their budget rarely exceeds $10 million (I think Mullholland Drive cost $15 million). And certainly not many flops become cult classics. I know you want the movie to do well, but these comparisons are not valid.

Drop a zero, and cut that in half, and that is how much this movie is making if we're lucky :bear:

At this point who cares 😂

the Razzies will be brutal

What Razzies? The first 2/3rds of the movie is good and there are redeemable qualities in the last act.

Mulholland Dr. cost $15 million and made $20 million in revenues at box office. $15M is for production costs only, and doesn't include any marketing costs. So still most likely a loss-leader, not a break-even output.  Fire Walk With Me had a $10 million budget for $4m in revenue. A total loss leader, and is now considered one of his best films and has likely made that budget more than twice over in DVD sales and digital sales on platforms like Amazon/streaming deals.

It's also quite presumptuous to assume I want the movie to do well when the reality is I couldn't care less. I was just pointing out that the studio will make money in other ways once the theatrical run ends, as they always do. So I wouldn't panic over box office numbers. Because in the long run they'll merely be a fraction of revenue generated by the film. This will be rereleased ad nauseaum in steelbook formats and in box sets with all other DC movies or Batman movies. If there's one thing major corporations know how to do, it's to milk something until it's dry. Let's not forget the $200 million budget came out of the 1 BILLION revenue from the first movie. So they've already broken even before the movie was even released, since they most likely used profits from the first film to fund the second one.

These studios love claiming they don't make money on these things but the reality is people are still buying DVDs  and merch of Tim Burton's Batman Returns from 1992, and will be doing so for the next decades. Fun fact, that movie was also considered "a failure" and has definitely benefitted from time. FAD will probably be fine in the long run.

The movie flopping has nothing to do with Gaga, everyone is loving her and praising her. She’s coming out untouched! Who cares about how much money the movie makes? She haves a fantastic album and everyone loves her!win win

Maybe they could set up a GoFundMe to make it to 500M?

Why? It's not coming for another five months.

Don't let critical reviews and sales revenue steal your ability to enjoy one of Gaga's projects. I enjoyed the movie, I know a lot of us did, so let's give it some love despite the industry reaction.

I don't mind talking about the movie and its good things, but I don't think discussing box office numbers will do any good. Even if LG7 is only coming in February, the lead is right around the corner and I expect a lot of promo and things to ease the wait.
