“Joker: Folie À Deux’s nearly $200 million budget plus marketing costs puts “break even” at north of $500 million, and I see no path to that figure unless something entirely unexpected and major changes in the next 24 hours.

Because if, instead of a 3x final multiplier and foreign tickets doubling domestic, we wind up seeing a 2.7x multiplier, then it finishes at about $365 million. And at 2.5x, it will gross $338 million.“

Jill

Joaquin should get an interview with Jimmy Fallon and shoot him in the head live maybe that's the key, a win-win situation

This was an official message from the Office of the First Lady.

Let's pretend we are fundraising for the BTW Foundation but we actually give all the money to Warner Bros. :zilla:

Why? It's not coming for another five months.

Don't let critical reviews and sales revenue steal your ability to enjoy one of Gaga's projects. I enjoyed the movie, I know a lot of us did, so let's give it some love despite the industry reaction.

But it’s releasing in China soon - isnt that a major market that could up the overall revenue? :franminervini:

Yes. It's not going to break even, but the fact that it received a release in China means it likely won't be as big as a bomb as some people are projecting.

For a successful movie, China brings in as much profit as one big European country, and that's for a very successful hit. For an unsuccessful movie, it won't make a big difference.

you're forgetting the fact that so many movies that were "flops" became cult classics and earned way more money via streaming, dvd sales, and also merch deals. in the long run very few movies don't break even probably, since everything gains its audience somewhere somehow. also international audiences may be more favorable than americans who all need happy endings. :laughga: by these metrics all david lynch films were actually loss-leaders at studios, so why would they keep funding him? because of all the extra revenue that was generated outside of theatres.

Y'all... If the movie doesn't make the money back, it's not gonna come out of Gaga's bank account - presumably, she's already been paid, so... the studio will carry that burden, and considering how poorly movie studios have been treating artists lately, especially in pre and post production, honestly, I'm not very upset by the prospect of them losing money... my kink is karma, and they deserve this and then some :cyanlights:
