I actually didn’t mind them, but removing them would have made more time for developing Lee’s character. What could have been.. Maybe... Or explain it better. Music is important for Arthur so they could've made it clear that Harley was using it... If they had to cut it, I would've left and extended version of Folie à Deux (strong chances at Best Original Song tbh - I hope what they used is enough for it to at least get a nom It's a beautiful song) and That's Entertainment at the end

I fear we're about to learn some very interesting behind the scenes things about this film in the coming weeks. I think this may have a lot to do with the fact that James Gunn took over the DC universe, who had completely new ideas that did not fit the Joker's world at all. I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out that Todd and Gunn couldn't work together at all.

Todd's Joker films are not set in Gunn's universe and the events within them do not impact what Gunn is working on. We know that Gunn did see this film because he left some feedback on it, but I seriously, deeply doubt that anything we see in this is a result of Gunn. From all we see, he only saw it when it was being edited. This film's problems run much deeper than an edit. This to me reeks much more of Todd's intentions and Warner's desires being two very different things. Ricardo 7,728
I’m just wondering when was the last time a musical was big at the box? their only real mistake was not promoting it as a full on musical, I remember they were trying to pass it as it wasn’t

Luv u Sum 2,311
that was such a stupid move. those kinds of these are normal practice for a reason... this just tells me that todd phillips was so set on what he wanted to do and had no interest in hearing what an outside perspective on the film might be... and whose the one that buys tickets and funds the movie making it's money back ? the final product is just so bad. so many bad choices. The last big true musical was The Greatest Showman in 2017, but the second Mamma Mia movie in 2018 did alright for itself as well (wanna say it landed in the $300 millions area when all said and done). I'd count Wonka as a musical as well, even though I think it's less a pure musical than a film like TGS or Mamma Mia. The reason I consider it a little different is it's a strongly narrative film with songs, whereas TGS and Mamma Mia are built completely around the music. OMF 3,250
It’s unfortunate and this may affect interest in Harlequin (album) as well. Shame but again the blame isn’t on Gaga and I don’t think there is lack of interest in her. Edited October 5, 2024 by OMF
Glomer 574
Tbh, I commend Todd for his boldness... it clearly didn't land with the audience but at least he stuck to his vision, as twisted as it may be. Keeping the proportions, I feel he did with Joker what Rian Johnson couldn't do with Star Wars IX, with Disney making J.J. Abrams direct a fan fest of a movie instead. You know, not every movie should be made with the goal to please the audience/make a billion dollars... With that being said, I think it's really weird that WB of all studios let him go on with it and take such a big risk... I might be being dramatic here but I think this probably won't happen again anytime soon, maybe they did this to prove a point (and they did) Edited October 5, 2024 by Glomer
