but general consensus is that Gaga is great but severely underused in the film - it's not her fault at all.

Stan wars online will use the film's critical & commercial response as ammo, but other than that.... she's generally praised in the film.

i don't see how this will affect hype for LG7 at all

She was on the biggest morning show AND late show in the UK and interviews on the biggest radio shows here?

But yeah it’s not shocking it’s low without physicals.

Primarily to talk about JFAD though.
No Harlequin performance like the US got (and actually led to a streaming boost) which feels like a missed opportunity with the Graham Norton show.

Plus GMB's figures are tanking and the programmes had a lot of payfreezes for staff this year so I wouldn't really brag about it being the biggest. Daytime tv is dying in the UK

This is a fun project from Gaga's outburst of creativity. We are lucky she shared it with the world. Harlequin is a gift. Gifts are not meant to chart on pop or jazz charts.

:bye:

The album felt more for little monsters than for the GP. Happy Mistake being the most GP-friendly original song on it is definitely more for us than for random locals who aren't going to understand the background of the song much.

Ballads like DWAS and ARUTW are great GP smashes because while they're beautiful, they also have a very clear meaning that makes people use them for tiktoks and edits or send them to loved ones.

Happy Mistake is much more personal to Gaga and less simple in its meaning I think.

“Duh, It’s a partial release” “I mean, it’s a jazz album” “this album was totally made to underperform”. The coping  :toofunny:

GUYS, strictly speaking It’s a flop launch, so what? You lot make things so exhausting lmao.

This is pretty tragic considering Cheek To Cheek reached #10 and Love For Sale #6 in the UK. It really should have been top 15, especially as it's a good record!!

That's true but it's solely because both of those albums had the vinyls, CDs and bundles shipped in their first week.

If you look at streams solely, Harlequin is doing better than both of them, which means if the release hadn't been so rushed and the physicals shipped in the first week, it is almost guaranteed she would have gotten another top 10

its not coping, its just realistic... none of us expected it to be a hit and we're happily enjoying it for what it is: Gaga's cute little side project

calling it a flop is just stupid when there commercial effort is minute

mother, what must i do?

Right, so why are some of you stressing about people calling it flop, when so far, it technically is? regardless of how you feel and what your expectations were, this is still a undesired debut for a superstar with an enormous following, realistically, these numbers shouldn’t even make sense, since regardless of genre and promo (lol) this is still new music from their fave.

My point was, what about it? Why do some of you get so defensive about people calling a bad debut, a bad debut? :poot:

This is not in line with how Gaga presented it though :vegas: She put in a lot more effort than that. While it isn't a very marketable album, she's doing her very best to promote it anyway. It' a great chance to see if she can generate momentum outside of a traditional big release and she's clearly struggling. That's interesting, esp compared to her peers.

I mean, yeah, none of us expected it to be an absolute smash but did we expect it to debut so terribly all over the world? While she has been in such a unique spotlight for the last two months? Hell no.

But the songs are being promoted from this as if it were a pop album. They are on pop playlists unlike her jazz albums. It was being promoted as a companion to the movie, so not even a soundtrack really. I think this should have made it top 10 easily at least in the major markets. I'm more so upset that her team didn't ensure it. All the work they put into DWAS release only to drop the ball on this is weird. It seems really last minute and rushed.

they didn't drop the ball, there's no ball to drop in the first place. it's just a side project

i mean... is she doing her best? it's more like she's proudly presenting us her latest art project and saying "buy it if you want" rather than actually promoting it with intention for it to sell to the masses

she's been in the game for over a decade so she knows how to sell a record but she's missed out key things

Other artists of her caliber have side projects that usually are top 10 if not number 1, at least in the US.

"physical editions aren't even out yet" - that's literally dropping the ball, which I'm willing to give them the benefit of doubt and say she surprised them with it or something.
