The supposed alternate ending is

*SPOILERS*

Is her killing the joker herself and not that random inmate. I would at least like to see that perspective. I can maybe see why they didn’t do it, people are mad in general he got killed like that and can you imagine the hate Gaga would get if her character killed him? I don’t know, I would think it’s more interesting but some have said that would be worse.

Well...

Spoiler

She wanted the Joker and he said he didn't exist so it made sense (maybe she was really mad at him) and it could've been better if we had more time with her and they showed us who she really was (instead of just the lawyer telling it to Arthur), what she wanted, what her plan was and a better execution of what we saw in the movie... She was manipulating and lying to him the whole time lol

Genuine question: Does anyone think there is a slight possibility we might get an extended/alternate cut? The original film does not, however, the sequel already has negative reviews, with many saying Lee should’ve had more screen time/character development. I attended an early screening Monday night and I enjoyed it, but I can understand why many people would be disappointed. After the unprecedented success of the first film, do any of u guys think Todd might actually release an alternate cut of the sequel to save his image and the film’s legacy? (I think it would be a smart move).

-Side note: Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure I read somewhere around a year ago that multiple endings were filmed.

(Mild Spoiler Warnings, if you are good at guessing) But in response to this, I think there’s a lot of factors that would go into that decision. Is it already made, scored, or would more money have to go into providing the extended/directors or alternate cut? Who would pay for it? Would Todd? The studio? Already a lot of money was poured into this project, and Warner Bros took big risks to bring Todd’s, Joaquin’s & Gaga’s vision to life, that business wise honestly might not pay off for Warner Bro’s. They put a lot of faith in the sequel, assuming a second film could make back their 200m budget and stand to make a profit, which would be roughly 3x the budget, 600m is what the film would have to make to make a profit. One thing I am really happy about is the project Harlequin, I do sometimes wish I didn’t listen to it before seeing the movie as the choices, sound and production was so different. If someone was to go into the movie expecting something like or similar to the Harlequin project they could be disappointed. I would love an extended cut though, over all I felt the movie needed two things. I felt the musical needed to be pushed more, either push it or don’t do it. I felt some reluctance to go bigger to appease audiences that don’t like musicals and I think what we ended up with was something that wouldn’t satisfy either side as much as it could’ve if they pushed the musical more. The whimsy & fantasy is where a lot of fun between the Joker and Harley took place, and I feel choices were made to whittle this down, and some fantasy scenes from the trailer were even cut entirely. I didn’t like those choices as the fantasy scenes were some of my favorite parts! The fantasy and whimsy was awesome, this is where Gaga’s singing talents shined as well, and we broke away from Lee’s voice, I liked hearing hear sing different as Lee, but I’d much rather hear Gaga. I also think when it comes to a musical you want people to remember and have the songs stick with you in your head, no one’s singing along to Lee, it creates that tension it’s meant to & unease, but if you want people to remember your musical and songs, they do got to hit & sound appealing to stick with you and for you to hum in your head, it can’t all be eerie and abstract. They did do both which I appreciate, I just personally prefer the fantasy version of Lee, & I think we needed more of that, more fantasy Joker and more fantasy Lee, with the songs. I mean after all you have Lady Gaga, a powerhouse, why downplay her talents, her vocal talent is a big element of the success that was A Star is Born, there’s a formula to that I think would of been wise to follow, A Star is Born are some of her top streamed songs to this day, people loved the soundtrack to A Star is Born, you want the same for Joker 2, I think they should of featured more fantasy Lee vocals in the song choices, and not been afraid to push the musical more, they didn’t need to draw back, what they did do and did create when it worked, it really worked and it would’ve been fun to have more of that. The fantasy is also we got to see folie a deux, this shared madness of two. Arthur is locked up in Arkham & separated from Lee for most of the movie, so the fantasy is where you get to primarily see them together raising hell, and another element that I think people came to the movie for to see Harley and Joker together, so when fantasies broke out, this is where they could dream up what mischief they’d get into or what reality they would create, even when we all know what these two are dreaming is not set or based in reality and will probably all end badly, those sequences with Harley and Arthur were everything. The second and last thing I would’ve like to see is more development and answers when it came to the final act, why did Lee make choices she made, how did joker fans react to Arther’s final comments. I also felt there were a lot of messages Todd was trying to convey, that along with big plot changes in post production, hurt the final act. I wanted a little more back story and answers when it came to the final act. Many things were left up to interpretation or didn’t feel complete for me, and from what I have heard, the ending was originally completely different then the one we got with the finished film, which could be why it felt that way. I know some of us were disappointed with scene cuts with Lee. In the context of the ending change some of the pieces that were in the film before might of not made sense, and I do think changing the ending did effect the over all final act, it felt a little messy and rushed. Over all the score, and acting I felt was very well done and effective. I just wanted a little more from the songs, & the final act. I do have a third thing I just thought of as well. I left the theatre feeling so depressed because I was so in it with Arther, I seriously felt like I needed to go straight to therapy or a friends to get myself out of a comatose state after experiencing so much heaviness from that film. A show like this can be triggering for anyone with PTSD or who has experienced abuse and the ending felt like it ended on a note of hopelessness, the movie needed a little more injection of hope, even if they added something at the end. I wouldn’t say change the ending, but it needed some more hope in all the darkness. I think most people who leave the theatre depressed are not going to want to go see it a second time. That would have been something for the creatives to think about when it came to the business side. I will be going to see it again, and look forward to what I take away from it in future viewings, but yea, I do hope at one point an extended or directors cut is in the future, if not we can appreciate the art for what it is, and that we got a stellar companion album that is Harlequin.

Making the movie longer is not going to make it better. It doesn’t matter how long it is when the core concept itself is the issue.

EDIT: Holy **** did not realize this was an old bumped thread
