I love this album.  I think it's totally amazing and has great replay value.  Gaga's singing is superb.  She puts her own spin on jazz standards while staying faithful to the jazz style of each song, such as swing jazz.  As a jazz fan, I can't decide if Gaga's greatest album imo is C2C or Harlequin.   Four songs from the jazz age (1930s) and five songs from the 1950s-1960s round out the traditional jazz songs on the album.  Amazing and thrilling, and I hope it catches on with the public and becomes a huge hit over time.

What are your thoughts on Love For Sale?

This, so much.  I'm also so grateful for this album.  I can understand why some don't like the album.  It's personal taste in music ... some don't like jazz.   Gaga has always loved jazz, and here she is doing what she loves even if it means she takes a hit from those who don't care for jazz.

I understand the lack of interest in jazz music, people are going to listen to whatever pleases them the most and that’s fair. Even Gaga mentioned the LM who are and aren’t jazz fans. My point was more about being in a fan site where people supposedly support Gaga’s work and yet in every thread there are complainers taking for granted anything that isn’t pop related. Just look at all the hate Joanne, C2C and L4S get from this fanbase. Following her career in all its nuances is super exciting, but the person who is strictly focused on pop music is the same person who complained “Gaga hasn’t released new music in 4 years” or “Gaga doesn’t care about music anymore” and on and on. And there are so many great things beyond pop music. Gaga is a once in a lifetime artist and her artistry should be valued in all its content. I think you understand what I mean

Just A Holy Fool

Okay, low key I was kind of disappointed when I listened yesterday, I listened to it a couple of times and the only song that grabbed me was The Joker.

HOWEVER, I am full out bopping to this today. It’s never going to be a streaming juggernaut, but it continues to show our fave’s versatility.

Outstreaming a “comeback” record with 3 singles and months of marketing is just icing on the cake :ally:

I absolutely love that album, and Iove Cole Porter's songs.    I think of C2C first, because I attended the C2C tour.   Big fan of TonyGa.  Tony did wonders to broaden her music career.

To be fair, my appreciation of music genres is skewed by the fact that the only music in my house while I was a kid was jazz and classical.   I only heard the other genres of the day (doo wop, early rock, soul) when I was with my friends, not in my house.  My father was a jazz musician, and the songs in C2C, LFS, and Harlequin were the mainstays of what he played in the big swing bands.  Those were the "standards", the songs all the big bands played.  People complain that Gaga should have chosen differently for the first two songs in Harlequin, but I cried listening to them because I love them so much and Gaga sang them so beautifully.

That’s so cool! I imagine the environment you grew up was very artistic and inspiring! Did you become a musician as well? I only had a more profound contact with jazz in my adulthood.

Get Happy literally gave me goosebumps! And I cried listening to Smile!

I played French horn starting when I was in elementary school.  Continued through college, then quit.  Have played classical guitar from time to time.   I didn't have the knack to play jazz on any instrument, but loved to play classical.  My dad played lead alto sax in the big swing bands, and he gave private lessons in sax, flute, clarinet, and piano.   He toured the USA with the big bands.  When in Pittsburgh I attended some of his concerts.  He sometimes jammed all night with his friends in his studio in the basement of our house.  I would sometimes go down there in my pajamas and the musicians tried to convince me to join them on the French horn.  They were into improvisational jazz where they took turns improvising to each jazz standard.  I couldn't do that.  Brings back memories.

What contact have you had with jazz?

its the big fans who will be playing this album front to back and the majority here agree the album has replay value

Mmm really? I’m a big fan, I play listed 3 songs but won’t probably ever listen to the record in full again

That is so cool! I find wind instruments so hard to master! And also it’s so special when music is a part of someone’s life in this intense way you experienced since an early age! You must have great memories!

My first contact with jazz was with Frank Sinatra recordings and then Cheek to Cheek. I don’t listen to jazz music very often, but I recently discovered Laufey and I’m kinda obsessed with her music right now.
