Anyone else notice how Metacritic equates a 3.5 out of 4 to a 70 from Rolling Stone? The real score should be 87.5 if you do the math. Metacritic always seems to lower her average and sabotage her every era

can't find the original comment but @mamo I don't think that's necessarily all true. Gaga is an immense talent for sure but cover albums also don't always score highly. It's hard to really engage your audience (critics) with material they've heard done before usually by the original artist. so that's primarily why it's not performing so well imo.  if cowboy carter had just been covers it would have likely had a lower score as well.

Girl literal re-recordings with exactly the same songs by the same artist (Red and 1989), are sitting at 90 and 91 respectively. Pls

Because unlike Taylor and Bey, she doesn't withhold access from publications or send her stans after the critics for bad or even mediocre reviews. Music criticism has been a joke for a long time.

i mean i could write a whole essay explaining why that's a completely different (and unique) situation in the industry but your mind seems set already so i'm going to not do that.  but regardless of whether or not other artists are paying for good reviews or are getting them for other reasons, that doesn't automatically mean harlequin is a 10/10 album either... and also worth pointing out the rerecordings you're mentioning DON'T have "exactly the same songs". there's always at least 5+ extra songs (i think red has like 10?) which makes them "the fame monster" type releases: a re-release of the first album + an extra ep of new material. so your original statement is also inaccurate.

Let's be real, GP doesn't care about critics, they don't look it up or pay attention to that. If the music's good they'll listen, if not they'll forget it.

 

At the end of the day, ofc we want our fave to be praised, but who cares. As long as the music slaps for me, I am happy 😊

My original statement may be inaccurate but almost all vault tracks are significantly worse than songs on the album (obviously)

Why isn't The Irish Times 4 4-star review not on MC? The Irish Times' review for Joker FAD is posted...but not for Harlequin. That could bring the MC score to 70!
