Oh come on I’m just voicing my opinion I’m not dragging her. The album is objectively mid. It’s an album of cover songs no matter what way you wanna paint it. And she’s done that before (and better) with Tony.

She even predicted her own metacritic score (65) by referring to it as LG6.5

Why the f*** do we still care about critics?

Lady Gaga's talent is BEYOND comprenhension thus cannot be critised or measured. She is THE STANDARD in the industry.

I can see where critics are coming from tbh. It's crazy Harley Quinn, just look at the visuals and album cover. This should be dark, it should be experimental, it should be crazy. Yet instead we get covers and show tunes. Happy Mistake is probably the one song that fits what this album should be.

However, it's still crazy that Ariana and others have higher scores that Gaga's work. And yes if Beyonce did this and sang it the same way, that's 100 automatically.

The whole point of Harley Quinn as a character is that she is a chaotic evil, but she's been driven to insanity due to her obsession and limerence with The Joker who is incredibly abusive to her. So while she is committing violent acts, the inside of her head is actually this fractured wonderland and everything has a strange positive spin. I think Margot Robbie's version and the editing of her movies helped to portray this - where she'd be like talking to a taxidermy animal as if it's alive, and when the police are chasing her to arrest her for violent crimes but she has a bacon egg and cheese sandwich in her hands and all she cares about is eating it.

The character herself has created a weird happy mind with which to filter the world through so she can dissociate from all the violence and abuse she is receiving and also perpetrating.

That's why I love her relationship with Poison Ivy because while Ivy is also a villain, she doesn't hurt Harley and it allows Harley to actually exist in reality more.

Anyhoo... this album is *in my opinion* a genius exploration of that internal brain space that Gaga's Harley might have to create to deal with her fractured reality. Instead of going the whole "hiya mistah J" "daddy's little monster" version, they made Harley regress into a theatrical girl who can sing these jazzy happy songs in her head and convince herself that Joker is in love with her for real instead of just using her and abusing her.

As a side note - if they try to remove the abusive aspect between Harley & Joker and make it a proper love story, I'll be so upset. That dynamic is such an important point between their interactions and it informs so much of who Harley is and how she grows as a person and ends up moving into a more anti-hero space instead of being proper evil. Anyhoo.

Umm - albums that I’ve liked as a WHOLE? Not since the fame/monster and born this way.

any albums after that I’ve only liked a few songs but not the whole album

I think that this album may be different depending on people’s relationship with both Gaga and the songs on the album ahead of time.  I personally love Jazz and classics (aside from Gaga), so this project was right up my alley.  However, I also see how many people who aren’t familiar with the songs or genre might not love it.  While I can appreciate that the album may not appeal to your taste in music, that doesn’t mean it’s an objectively bad album.

Seriously? Art is subjective nothing is “objectively” mid, but to try to say “objectively mid” about this album on gagadaily is trolling behaviour.

It’s pretty well known Beyonce pays for good reviews no?

It's not "objectively mid". Calling something "mid" is your opinion of it. What even is "mid"? At least use real words.

I like the genres of music that she tried to tap into with Harlequin. It just didn’t scratch the itch that I thought it would. It felt very “safe” which is a crazy thing to say about Gaga and moreso an unsafe and unpredictable character like Harley.

Most of the covers provided nothing extra. Even Happy Mistake is very forgettable. I predict this album will be lost in the abyss along with Love For Sale lol.

going by Gaga’s interviews and referring to it as LG6.5 I think even she wasn’t trying to oversell it as something it’s not. Let’s just take it as it is.

Mid meaning average. There’s just nothing about this album that screams Harley Quinn to me or delusions.
