If she was diagnosed with depression before, it does not mean she's still currently depressed. Is she currently still depressed? The brain fog thing she mentioned is a part of the depression but it's not a neurological condition. She stated that her depression is severe but she seems to still function. Mental health problem can be so debilitating that one cannot function but she's still working. I read a report and it looks like she's trying to say she's depressed because of the fame. How do other pop girls cope with the situation? She's clearly not coping well. I understand as a famous person, it is difficult at the beginning as you need additional protection for your privacy but she seems to complain a lot more than other people or her peers who are more famous than her. She literally has bipolar II.

Diagnostically and etiologically, major depressive disorder and bipolar disorder two are very different things. The treatment is also vastly different. Also, one can have only manic episodes and still be diagnosed with bipolar without ever experiencing depression. Exactly what is her condition?

I mean, the main difference is the presence of mania in bipolar, whereas MDD is primarily just depression. Also framing bipolar and depression as if they’re mutually exclusive is pretty disingenuous, but she’s publicly stated that she has bipolar II. Also: why are you out here propagating this antiquated narrative that a mental health condition has to be debilitating in order to be considered legitimate? Is Gaga’s PTSD illegitimate because she’s able to manage it in the context of her work schedule? If that is a correct diagnosis, there shouldn't be another diagnosis of severe depression, which seems to emerge in recent news. Either her psychiatrist is incompetent (she stated that she's diagnosed by a psychiatrist) or something is wrong here.

I was saying if she said she has "severe" depression, then it can be debilitating which I don't see from her. Specifically, "She stated that her depression is severe but she seems to still function." I was not saying "a mental health condition has to be debilitating in order to be considered legitimate." Also, I said "seem to" because I clearly don't know how her personal life is like. Glad to see you’re having a very normal one out here dissecting and questioning a stranger’s mental health diagnosis.

That’s an interesting semantic repackaging of essentially the same sentiment, “because I can’t see the depression from a distance, it’s probably not happening.”
Ladle Ghoulash 16,195
Glad to know some of y’all are gonna need full doctor’s notes from a celebrity’s psychiatrist before you take them seriously. Absolutely wild behavior. 1

She is working hard. That is clearly an indication that one aspect of her life is still functioning. One criteria for mental illness is difficulties in functioning. She may not function well in aspects I'm not aware of but in terms of work, she is still doing well. Also I don't need her psychiatrist's note but from what the news reported, some statements are diagnostically impossible and confusing. Any medically trained profession can confirm this. Well, I want to be more precise. She can have a condition of "severe depression" and not a diagnosis of "severe depression." That might make sense. However, even that, I still think the "severe" part is dubious but there is no way I can know for sure because I can only see the public/work side of her life.
