OMF 3,649
Self-defence is not a crime but for an anti-gun representative it wasn’t the best response. Not having a gun in the first place is the argument, right? Or is she supporting each household to have guns for protection.

A lot of Liberals are gun owners, I mean, how can one not be when crazy Conservatives threaten our very existence? The difference is that Dems usually don't make guns their whole personality like Republicans do. They see it as a tool for safety but then again, there are Dems who shoot guns for sport as well, so... So what you're saying is that when democrats speak against owning guns they just oppose to republicans having guns but they keeping theirs still? Lady Palutena 3,147
Just now, GagaTheExplorer said: So what you're saying is that when democrats speak against owning guns they just oppose to republicans having guns but they keeping theirs still? I think some probably do, but others realize that in today's political climate, such a protection is necessary. I don't deny there are some who may want to take away everyone's guns but they're not representative of every Dem. And no, the Dems who own guns simply oppose right-wing nutjobs who shouldn't be allowed to operate a blender, let alone have access to a gun. Adoremus in caelum, Palutena. Dea luminis. There's a signifcant difference between a standard hunting rifle and an assault rifle I'm not talking about eliminating the 2nd Amendment. I'm talking about a conjunction of factors that became very evident during Kamala Harris's campaign, which is a clear shift to the right. The Democrats have become much more conservative over the years, to the point where someone like FDR is now completely unthinkable, and the Democratic presidential campaign openly boasts about receiving support from Republicans, including the spread of memes vindicating Bush and others. Not only that: there’s also a clear shift in immigration policy towards an increasingly Trumpist rhetoric. Adding to this, the Democrats never offered any real "progressive alternative". Instead, they merely adapted to a right-wing context by claiming that we had to think about "electability". Remember 2020? That was the excuse to support Biden instead of Bernie Sanders according to them. Electability. Now, four years later, the excuses remain and we have another centrist to right-wing candidate by world standards. Considering all of this, Kamala Harris's comments may not seem very extreme by themselves (though this is debatable), but they are certainly concerning when viewed in the broader context. Not to mention the actions of Democratic governments regarding foreign policy, which is a whole other can of worms. Former First Lady of the United States. But I did notice that even their effort to present themselves that way has been fading recently. Now, it seems like they don't even have a filter when it comes to presenting themselves as conservatives, or at least they're testing the waters to see if it's necessary to have one or not. That speaks volumes to me and it relates directly to the state of the US internationally speaking. Former First Lady of the United States. The battleground states are currently in a depressing phase. North Carolina, Georgia, and Arizona (which are all very much in play this election) lean conservative. Nevada just elected a Republican governor. Florida took a hard right and is like a cat on a tree that the Dems are trying to gently encourage to come down. Texas, another conservative state, is now the holy grail of the electoral map and Dems don’t want to spook it away because it’s trending in their favor. The Trump era has shifted everything to the right and there’s currently little incentive to change the rhetoric to something that’s more left-leaning. It’s not permanent but that’s where we are right now.

These two things are connected, and they won't end well for the US. No…? On this specific issue she’s not being right wing. Breaking into people’s houses is a crime. Self defence is not. As seen with Nancy Pelosi, someone trying to break into any politicians house is intent to kill. Ideally they’d be harmlessly locked up but that’s not realistic with police wait times and all - especially if it’s a house. A candidate like Bernie Sanders can't even survive a Democratic primary. A presidential candidate has to be centrist and in American terms that means being politically center-left but socially center-right. Also, it's never been the position of the Democratic party to ban guns. Regulations, safety laws and waiting times have always been the goal. The ban Bill Clinton was able to get passed is the farthest we'd ever go again. Most Americans support gun safety laws but most Americans are also gun owners. Including me! I have a peace keeper locked in a safe in my closet!
