I read a few French critics saying that Gaga was amazing in her role but not shown enought during the movie

Honestly, winning supportive actress is much harder because you have a reduced role and character arc. You are forced to steal the show from the leads and make a good impression with what little screen time you have. To me its a more difficult category that lead actress where you have the whole movie to make your shot

She might have a shot then... Because the reviews say exactly that about her performance

Reality

It's crazy to me that y'all are complaining about a movie you haven't seen yet. Slow down and think about that for a second.

Gaga's very clearly going to have a big presence in the film. Even if she's physically not in more of the film than we originally thought, she will still play a massive role in it. I think some of y'all are under the assumption that the movie was going to take place from Harley's perspective or something, but that was never going to be the case. This is a sequel first and foremost. Of course Joaquin's Joker would take center stage.

The "It's called Folie à Deux, so that means they should be co-leads!" argument makes no sense. All that name means is "shared madness," which is something both Joker and Harley will have. Harley being a secondary character has no bearing on that. She could still be a supporting role and still have that "shared madness" with Joker.

Likewise, the whole "They were billed together, so that means they're co-leads!" argument makes no sense. Gaga is the female lead of the film, and with Harley playing such an important role, of course she's going to have high billing. Plus, it's Lady Gaga. Surely they want to use her name to market the film. But billing =/= screen time. There are countless movies where supporting actors/actresses have high billing because of their cachet. All due respect to the other actors in the film, but no one else there has the same public status as Lady Gaga. It's a no-brainer that she's going to have high billing.

I kinda not want her to win this category if she gets nominated, it will be much HARDER to win the lead category in upcoming movies, the Academy doesn't give Oscar's like Grammy's and she already have one

I think they just played it smart showing as much footage of them together, when in reality the movie it’s not all about them.

i feel kinda scammed tbh lol

I think the more important question is: why wasn’t the movie all about them? The film is title “Madness of Two” and that clearly would have been the more interesting story to tell

I disagree. To win Leading Actress, you have to be flawless across an entire film. To win Supporting Actress, your scenes just need to be memorable and have an X factor to them, which is something Gaga has always been able to deliver in her acting.

I get your point but I don't think that's the case... She can win Supporting and then have an amazing lead role and win for that too... There are actresses who have 2 or 3 Oscars for Lead

Wow, this will be the highest ratings ever and most anticipated award at the show. Ariana, Selena and Gaga. Btw, Gaga loves them both.

Yeah i know, but those cases are years apart in their wins, means that the Academy is really hard to give you another Oscar unless the acting is extremely good, i mean we all know Meryl Steep should had more Oscar's than what she has, she is insanely good, but yeah we will not give this woman an Oscar each time she gets on screen, Cate Blanchett should had won that Oscar for TAR honestly but we aint giving a third Oscar to her so early, Emma Stone was another case cause her acting was extremely good and far better than her peers but to me she was more deserving of that second Oscar than the one for La La Land. Gaga has one Oscar already, winning a supporting category means she will need an extremely very good acting for winning a lead actress considering the Oscar's are more picky to give an actor/actress the achievement of having more than 2 Oscar's lets be honest

Ngl I'll be surprised if Ari picks up a nomination.

Wicked just doesn't look like Oscar bait - especially as it's plot is being split into 2 films. Musical adaptations are often overlooked in film awards season.

Yeah they clearly played the harley/joker story to advertise the movie, but in reality i guess it’s all about him tbh

I mean.. it's JOKER 2, not Harley Quinn 2, ofc she's a supporting role?

kinda cool to see those 3 ladies nominated for acting together
