Which makes sense since the reviews says Gaga is underused in the movie.

Does screen time have anything to do with deciding what is a leading and what is a supporting role? Isn't the position and relationships the character has in the story that defines it? I never expected this to be a leading role, she plays the partner of the character who names the movie, and it's also the sequel where her character didn't appear in the first. That doesn't sound very leading role.

Supporting boosts her chances because the competition is very weak this year for supporting.

But I believe we still have 3 months before they decide the nominees for the biggest awards so I hope they wait to see the final competition before to send her for either category. :firega:

Honestly, winning supportive actress is much harder because you have a reduced role and character arc. You are forced to steal the show from the leads and make a good impression with what little screen time you have. To me its a more difficult category that lead actress where you have the whole movie to make your shot

A little of both. It depends on screen time and how important the character is for the movie. If its a character who appears very little, but who’s actions are essential to the plot, it could still be a “lead actor”, even if the screen time is small.

But usually a supporting role is often a smaller role with a decent impact on the narrative, but not essential.

The nominating committee won’t be interested in Wicked outside of maybe production design.

I think they just played it smart showing as much footage of them together, when in reality the movie it’s not all about them.

i feel kinda scammed tbh lol

Can we sue so they release another cut of the film? Lol

I think someone sued an studio because a scene they used in the trailers wasn't on the film :ladyhaha:

I'm totally fine. Quality over quantity. Feel like she is a scene stealer

Still very excited for Joker 2, as a fan of the first one

We should lower our expectations when it comes to her acting gigs because she ends up having very little control of the final output regardless of how she performed as an actress, these are not her films after all. And obviously her name will me marketed like crazy whether she's main, supporting or cameo simply because she has a massive fanbase which means thousands of possible ticket buyers.

The interesting thing to me in all of this is how we're okay minimizing women's roles in films a year after the Barbie movie.

It was always very obvious when Gaga led the film announcement on her socials. It was sooo obvious when all the key art aside from character key art featured both her and Joaquin equally. The film is called Joker: Folie à deux, or Joker Madness of Two. FaD also refers to shared psychosis. It's not obvious at all that she wasn't considered a co-lead, because it was never meant to be obvious to begin with. The main character(s) are drive the story itself and the focus of the story. They're behind the themes of the story being told. Ariana is not comparable in this scenario because she is not the force behind the theme, although she is a literary device to build the story. Glinda in Wicked is the foil to Elphaba, a character designed to contrast the main character and highlight how different the two are. Lee, from the marketing, moves in the same direction, at the same place, with the same goals and thoughts, as Joker throughout the marketing. The entire thing is sold as a convergence of the two characters to drive the theme of the film. Y'all are fighting to defend this when the studio intended for it all to look like this. It's disingenuous.

Exactly. It was and is titled as folie a deux, madness of TWO, delusion shared by TWO. It seems as if from the start Gaga was a co lead but in post production Gaga's Lee was cut short. And from the start the marketing of it, the posters, the teasers, everything hinted at a co lead not a supporting role.

Where's the spunk, Adam?
