I think she did the right thing . Every single time I see celebrities on the red carpet, and I hear the photographers just straight up yelling at them, and boss them around, I'm like "I couldn't do it" . 

I literally could not stand there and be yelled at like that, while posing, absolutely not, lol. I'm glad she yelled back, I hope more celebrities do it

This. I assumed it was one obnoxious photographer yelling at another.  One is yelling something like "to the right" and the other "straight ahead" and then one yells "shut the f up". Her back was to them so she couldn't see who it was directed to.  I think she misinterpreted it.

Yeah, even though she couldn’t see who it was directed to, I don’t get why she would think it was directed to her since she wasn’t talking.  Idk to me it seems like she was looking for a fight or reason to get pissed off. Very weird interaction.

I think she and her stylist were softly talking/coordinating as she was turned away from the photographers, probably orchestrating an over-the-shoulder pose while adjusting the garment. chappell may have perceived the "shut the f up" comment as directed toward her and her stylist, like she assumed the photographer was being like "shut the f up and turn around already so we can get more photos".

I'm not saying that was the photographer's intention, but it reminds me of this time I performed in drag at a variety show. I was super nervous particularly because it was not at a gay club, I was the only drag artist performing, and I had already been getting lots of strange compliments/comments...  but before the show this straight guy was like "WELL EXCUUUSE ME" after I squeezed past him in the crowded venue. and I snapped at him, and kind of made an ass of myself because no one else really heard it the way I did.

stress and discomfort can really alter your perception... yes, she could have handled it better, but she's human.
