Makes sense imo. It's very inconsistent with high highs and very low lows imo.Ā

Iā€™m honestly surprised to read this. I spent 2 different weeks in London this summer and Iā€™m not exaggerating when I say that some days every single shop I went into was playing a Dua song from this album. I know thatā€™s a very small sample size, but the impression I got from my visit was that London was all about this album.Ā

it's not a bad album by any means

but yeah, quite forgettable

feels like it needed way more time and work to fully develop to its full potential

its 3 singles were good, especially Houdini ofcĀ

Yeah I donā€™t dislike it but I havenā€™t listened to besides the weeks immediately after its release

I am not surprised because the album is absolutely more alternative-oriented. I have to be honest tho, itā€™s not outstanding but I cannot dislike this album. Most of the songs sounds really cool and go for a more breezy, more folksy kind of pop and I personally was here for it. Illusion is for me the only real four on the four dance pop track I can remember this year but thatā€™s also the track that mostly resembles her past work. So I guess maybe just the timing wasnā€™t the best for the kind of vibe they wanted to go try. and it was right after Dance The Night which was produced by Mark Ronson and heā€™s known to bring the funk to town so people just left because the rush and the adrenaline just wasnā€™t really in this album.

I donā€™t see anything alternative about it tbhĀ

Radical Optimism had such a niche vibe that it needed much more pr imo to really hit the GP how it was meant to be and to be compared to her previous success. It leaves me thinking something was up with her labelĀ

she is a priority for her label, there was no other artist who got as much promo, playlisting, radio airplay as Radical Optimism got

I think the main issue with the music and the marketing, was everything was too formulaic, trying to replicate the success of future nostalgia. I think nowadays what really makes for a successful album and era is a bit of experimentation and doing things in a different way. If she delved deeper into psychedelica she wouldā€™ve been onto something. Ā
Ā

Still a great album though!

Iā€™m so confused as to what went wrong with Training Seasonā€¦ like itā€™s such a banger idc. that and Maria deserved better imo.Ā

Honestly shop playlists in the UK rarely feel connected to whats popular in the UK charts these days.
