I love how many of y'all think the charts were ever genuine.

They never were.

Hell, pre digital it was just as easy if not easier to game the charts.

reading a billboard article about Katy’s record breaking Teenage Dream era actually reminded me how her team came up with new ways to push certain songs to the top. I completely forgot that both E.T. And Last Friday Night had remixes that helped them to get to number one on Billboard Hot 100 lol.

A lil swifty through and through

She truly does have cultural influence on the idustry despite claims otherwise

Artistically, very debatable...

But business wise, definitely!

Hell plenty of acts from the 80s and earlier have talked about how labels knew which specific shops/chains were official reporters for the Charts and either the labels or the acts would go there and buy up all the stock to deliberately bump the numbers.

And then the famous (in the UK) chart battle for #1 between Roll with it by Oasis & Country House by Blur where the release date was made the same to deliberately drive up sales for both by the record label (the hatred between the 2 bands is real though hahah)

NATAH

variants are fine when the only difference is cosmetic

variants are a big issue when they start seperating songs across multiple album copies

it's just so anti-consumer

mother, what must i do?
