It's absolutely due to the VMAs, but this has been known for awhile so I'm surprised it's taken so long to make this announcement. 

Can only assume they've failed to find alt dates for the shows.

I have tickets to see her in Austin and they randomly changed her day without announcing it.

Cancelling and postponing a concert two days before when people were already on site or at the airport...
As for Paris, a French journalist tweeted 10 days ago that the Paris date would be cancelled, so why wait a week to confirm it officially?

I'm sure it's all just to play bigger venues in a few months' time.
