The most formative man in my life, even more than the ones I'm related to. My icon, my legend, my role model.

My favorite video is the prison version of "They Don't Care About Us". At that point, the man had spent nearly 30 years singing hopeful songs about making the world a better place. Songs like "If'n I Was God" or "People Make the World Go Round" as a little kid, "Can You Feel It" and "Man of War" as a young man, "We Are the World", "Man in the Mirror", and "Heal the World" as an adult.

But through his experiences, even he lost hope and became bitter and angry at injustices. Instead of praying for it all to heal, he basically threw his hands up and said "f*ck this sh*t, none of it makes any sense, none of it matters, the people in power will kill us all and I've f*cking had it".

The prison version is so much more raw and angry. A man with nothing but contempt for the world spitefully spitting in its face. For every speech by a civil rights activist, there's a hundred police beatings. For every child saved, a hundred more starve. For every treaty signed, a dozen wars are fought.

Dude was pissed and he let it out.
