King of the Fall 3,600
You guys need to remember that the first Joker movie was also extremely polarizing with critics but ended up being an audience smash. Let's just wait and see because Gaga will remain untouched regardless of it's commerical success as critics are giving her performance positive reviews and complaining she should have been more utilized Hey, I'm king of the world, you ought to hear my song, you come on measure me, I'm twenty inches long

It had Joaquin Phoenix and Todd Phillips who are coming from Joker success. Like, really, you consider all that plus a music-adjacent script, you won't accept the role? If any, I think the problem might have been that they marketed Gaga as lead. Personally, I think commercial success shouldn't be the main focus for her acting career. This may be the "highest profile" besides MCU in terms for a boxoffice hit, but it's not such a high profile choice from an artistic point of view. She could be pickier with the directors she want to work with. However, Gaga is too expansive for them, I get that.

Were Cher or Barbra Straissand ever casted in a Venice/Berlin/Toronto darling film? Big stars usually do not go down that route. Not saying Gaga is mirroring their careers, just something to think about Either way, I get that Gaga is still building her profile in Hollywood
monkeybuziness 10
Why on world has this become a craze over box office success and leading the Oscar race? I think the way to the Oscar for Gaga, let's face it, it's still under development - there are actresses who are doing this 24/7 doing far more meaningful/complex stories - she is not playing in the same league delivery wise. Let the girl have her fun and support her, it's your only role. Edited September 5 by monkeybuziness

The director and cast of HOG rubbed us of an amazing film and I'd hate for this to be another HOG situation. Gaga acts her ass off and then the movie is paced or edited in the most boring way possible. Yes, the way this movie was teased felt like it would focus equally on Lee as on Joker in their shared madness. Now they seem to just use her mostly as a singer. Maybe this wasn't apparent in the script and Gaga had no idea it would turn out this way? With HOG they chose to have Pacino talk about opening a mall in Tokyo for 10 min instead of including the vital part of the story of Patricia being hospitalized and feeling abandoned. Why are they so scared to have a women take or even share the spotlight? Edited September 5 by Schwerk According to Gaga I'm a ****ing rad bitch 5

Denis Villeneuve, Guillermo Del Toro, Pablo Larrain, Pedro Almodovar, Luca Guadagnino, Jane Campion, Greta Gerwig, Baz Luhrman, The Daniels etc. Preferably directors and scripts that are focused on telling stories from a woman's perspective. All three films she's starred in have ended up focussing on her male counterparts. It's become a pattern. I think her next few films need to focus solely on her character and she has the lead billing alone. Imo that's the only way she'll win Best actress. Also If she's going to hypothetically do another musical, I need her to go full showgirl. There's nothing wrong with playing to her strengths, as long as it serves the film as a whole. But I do agree that she just needs to have a bit of fun and do something less serious. As a pop star Gaga has done tremendous work transitioning to a respected actor. The fact of the matter is the door to access these scripts & directors can’t open themselves, the heavy lifting is done in what is presented. Gaga landed a Star Is Born from The Sound of Music Tribute, playing with type as it called for a real star. This in turn gave her visibility to Sir Ridley Scott, landing the role as a real life person, gaining recognition from Jane Champion and Guillermo Del Toro. Now with Joker, Gaga collaborated with not only Todd Phillips, but for the first time with casting director Francine Maisler, who casts almost all directors you’ve mentions films. Maisler said herself she did not have Gaga on her radar, but was very impressed. There’s no doubt Gaga has her sights on the film auteurs, but getting there requires roles that make sense, simultaneously showcasing her abilities. Her film portfolio can’t be built in a vacuum, but she’s gaining recognition from heavyweights and is taking the big swings necessary to get there. 11
Hyperobject 66,766
also! it’s so unfair how many people put insane out of this world expectations on her and every acting role she takes on, just because she’s a pop star and MANY can’t wait to see her to fail so bad. tons of pop stans are mad at her, because their faves couldn’t build a decent acting careers while she’s got an Oscar nom for her first lead role and got to star in a sequel to one of the biggest movies of 2020s. but the truth is that many high profile actors and actresses star and/or produce panned box office bombs from time and time and no one bats an eye, because, well, they aren’t Lady Gaga. she’s slowly building her film portfolio and getting rare reviews for her performance for a third movie in a row. no matter how hard some try to paint her acting career as a fluke she will become a respected actress very very soon. and they better deal with it. :3 1 1 1

Galagala 4,551
She needs to read the script and pick up a great project next time... I hope she can still feel confident after this. 2/3 miss is not a great look. Edited September 5 by Galagala

Unpopular opinion but atleast jared put some effort. With a different director who committed to a more campy direction maybe puolo could have worked better. He was committed Adam driver on the hand maybe we can forgive how stiff and bland he seemed and blame it on how his character was poorly written but why did it seem like he forgot halfway through the movie that he was supposed to have an accent? Gaga and salma chewed and that's all that saved that movie. Edited September 5 by RenegAde

Joker Folie à Deux is probably the best project she actually booked. It'll give her great reviews on her acting and commercial success. Her acting on Folie à Deux seems at the peak of her range.
