I don't know how Oscar nominations work, are they getting influenced by the critics and reviews? sometimes they do, sometimes they don’t lol, for example, 2019’s Judy had 66 score on Metacritic, but that didn’t stop Renée Zellweger from winning Best Actress like, there’s a few instances of very mediocre movies getting their lead or supporting actors the noms and even wins
steven 5,273
At least her acting is praised by the critics, this is good. I'm hoping she goes for something totally different for her next movie, a psychological thriller would be insane.

mamo 17,462
so far what we know: - reviews are heavily mixed which isn't a surprise considering the first film was received the same way. it doesn't mean it's necessarily bad...go watch it for yourself and find out! - critics are praising Gaga for her acting but also saying they underused her and she needs more screen time. - seems like it's confirmed now she's campaigning as a supporting actress. you can serve it to me ancient city style... 3

It's all about narratives, and if it does well in the box office it will have a fighting chance in the awards season. Although divisive, it's already very high profile and as long as it is able to find certain groups that will champion it, it will be fine imo. 3 minutes ago, plane jane said: sometimes they do, sometimes they don’t lol, for example, 2019’s Judy had 66 score on Metacritic, but that didn’t stop Renée Zellweger from winning Best Actress like, there’s a few instances of very mediocre movies getting their lead or supporting actors the noms and even wins Oh ok, thank you guys! 1

If critics keep it the way it is now, it’s gonna be the same, probably just some noms for technical fields and if he’s good enough he can get another BA award. I really wish she would get more screen time at least so she could secure a supporting actress nom/award but looks like a hard shot. I hope I’m wrong tho. Didymus 34,329
The Oscar momentum is definitely already murdered. While critics hated the first movie they couldn't stop swooning over Phoenix's performance. This time Phoenix is getting mixed reviews for adding nothing new. Gaga, while well received, doesn't get to shine, which basically deletes any chance she had for an Oscar nom. So yeah. Part of me is happy that this is happening because the first movie SUCKS and I couldn't bear it that everyone pretended it was genius (and that could still happen with this sequel) but it is disappointing that she's not gonna make a strong impression either way. I'd rather have an iconically bad performance than a good one that doesn't take off.
Galagala 4,551
7 minutes ago, Levine said: Oh ok, thank you guys! And Joker 1 won Golden Lion. For a blockbuster film winning the top prize at Venice film festival, I think that was the biggest push for the film at that time. That diminished the impact of mixed reactions from American critics. So this time, even with a same MTC score, it'll be harder to redeem if it doesn't win something at Venice this year. River 104,213
Just like the first film, critics treats it as a comics movie and they expect it to follow the comics.. I can smell your penis, I can cure you, DIE SIS
Bonkiii 585
Collider gives it a 4/10 yikes https://collider.com/joker-folie-a-deux-review/ Spoiler Quote: Sorry, Little Monsters, Gaga adds nothing to the proceedings. To be fair, she’s not given a whole lot to do. Her character has no depth, and we only learn her backstory secondhand through Maryanne. For the most part, even during the musical numbers, she has a completely blank facial expression… Edited September 4 by Bonkiii

I wouldn’t be so sure about that tbh, Oscars is all about campaigning. If you know people in the industry, attend the right events, have other actors or directors campaign for you behind the scenes, then you’re set for a nomination. It doesn’t work that way, especially if you don’t have enough screen time that could outshine a “not so good” production as a whole.
