So people reacting with "it's so weird there's nonstop bad press about X" just recognize if a negative story about someone does well, more will spring up to capitalize on the algorithm, and if you engaged with a prior example of this the algorithm will target you with it. So, yes this does come in waves. That's how the internet works. I also knew several trans people who used this word all the time. That’s why it was World War III when Carmen came for RuPaul because so many people who used the word didn’t realize it was offensive. It explains the way she reacted towards her co-star, and that journalist, immediately taking offence, and assuming they were body-shaming her.
