Y'all need to stop comparing her to Katy Perry, forreal

It's been 10 years since "Roar vs Applause". Move on already. You're making us look even more insecure. :huntyga:

On a positive note, the record for peak spotify monthly listeners is currently:

Gaga at #7 with 97,842,172 listeners

we are coming at Post Malone at #6 with 98,466,468 listeners.

600K difference.

I really dont get how the different genres suddenly are a reason people are not allowed to be disappointed by the fact the numbers are just bad. 143 is just bad music, so why does it have more streams? Okay, 143 had the performances, but Gaga currently had almost 100M listeners on spotify, and today only 3% of that resulted in streams of Harlequin? Make it make sense

The ~100M listeners is not an automatic captive audience. Those are not people who signed up to the fanbase or followed her. That's a metric of people who in the PAST MONTH listened to a Lady Gaga song in one way or another, and we all know she gained that because she has a hit song that the GP probably listen to casually, and by the way, is in a completely different genre.

In fact, Katy (34.39M) has a bigger following count on Spotify than Gaga (31.72M).

If anything, a better comparison would be vs. similar genres, her past jazz albums, or other soundtracks.

It's okay to be disappointed with streams, for sure. But at least have a better reference point than Katy Perry's 143.

Honestly I don't get it. Gaga and Katy are in complete different places professionally, personally and sonically. Comparing them makes zero sense.

Katyrats are still brave and bring up Roar whenever possible, wcyd :billie:

You do realize what monthly listeners actually means? 100M ppl have listened to DWAS or any other Gaga song once during this time period on any playlist or because of autoplay, who knows. But it certainly doesn't mean that her active fanbase increased by 100% past month, and most of her fans avoid her jazz albums... :awkney:

I hope we can move past always comparing Gaga's performance to Katy. It's tiring. And in fact, it seems you all are falling for the trap they're setting up because those albums could not be any more different from each other.

Comparing a side jazz project to a full promoted mainstream comeback pop record is something so low only Katycats would have the nerve to do so

True. And somehow this resulted to us side-eyeing Gaga's achievements because we're biting into the narrative that she didn't measure up to some random standard.

I do apologize though if my previous posts sounded brash. I do not mean to diminish people's contribitions to the discussions here, or affect their enjoyment of the eraS we're in now.

It just had to be said before we are sucked into this black hole that we are being set up for.

basically radio doesn't reflect the latest new thing. it reflects what is already recognized as good songs that have been around for a while.

Thats what im gathering. Some people do still listen to radio but more spaced out since it competes with their own streaming

So I guess radio has become kinda weird. With songs taking longer to get recognized and longer to tire...

Yeah its besically on a constant delay with songs that were already streaming hits months ago

I suppose theres exeptions to that. Lead singles with radio deals should climb much faster

also notable how since mid Jan 2024, no female artist has topped the US Radio chart. It has been Jack Harlow, Teddy Swims (who btw is still in the top 5 316 days later and got a bigger update yesterday compared to DWAS), Hozier, Post and now Shaboozey. Female songs by Tate, Chappell, Billie or Sabrina who were huge on streaming never topped the hot 100 cause of radio.:saladga:

I have a hypothesis about this. I think the radio is more targeted to male audience. Professionals like truck drivers or even taxi drivers are predominantly males and they're more likely to listen to the radio because of their jobs.
