Its just a character choice, emulating that 60s era where people smoked everywhere whether at the office, in a restaurant, at home.

The song itself is BEAUTIFUL. Shallow doesn’t even compare musically. Both her and Bruno’s voices are heavenly and the song is so lovely without being cheesy. Not to mention Bruno has middle-aged women in a chokehold. Mother honestly won a Grammy with this before even being nominated. It’s that good.

I think she kinda clarified this isn't for LG7, it does seems joker coded, but also doesn't make sense if Bruno was working on it and invited her over.
