Like ironically, her technique was spectacular lmfaoooo her breathing was on point and she was pitch perfect like I’ve never seen while traversing stairs. What a crackhead our mother is

I see it being a mix. Any non-fantasy singing (like Get Happy at the end of the trailer) will probably be the messier vocals that flow with the dialogue and fit with the scene. It looks like there’s some kind of choir practice or music therapy at the asylum, so it will probably make sense in context. And then when they’re in fantasies they’re both completely transformed; it’s a proper performance with them singing well.

Sort of how when they’re waltzing through the street in real life it’s a bit haphazard, but when we see them waltz in the fantasy sequence it’s very poised and elegant.

Gaga was made for this role…she’s been living halfway between reality and fantasy since BTW

Will people understand this change, or will they just think it's bad singing? Answer in a few months. :bon:

“Actually, it’s kind of funny, since I’ve actually been singing in an untrained voice since I was a toddler.”:huntyga:

Do we know if that they will sing live in the movie like in ASIB?

Gaga’s such a legendary vocalist she has to regress decades to her birth to act like she can’t sing :laughga:

that’s an Oscar winning performance if I’ve ever heard of one :bradley:

"How do you take music and have it just be an extension of the dialogue, as opposed to breaking into song for no conceivable reason?" oh my ****ing god I am in love already

Joker: "Lee, I want to give the people what they want but I don't know what they see in me"
Harley: "Oh sweetie that reminds me. You see, my momma told me when I was young, we are ALL born superstars :cheeky:"

“For me, there’s plenty of bum notes, actually, from Lee,” she laughs of her singing in the film. “I’m a trained singer, right? So even my breathing was different when I sang as Lee. When I breathe to sing on stage, I have this very controlled way to make sure that I’m on pitch and it’s sustained at the right rhythm and amount of time, but Lee would never know how to do any of that. So it’s like removing the technicality of the whole thing, removing my perceived art-form from it all and completely being inside of who she is.”

This is so interesting, I can't wait to hear Lee's voice

"How do you take music and have it just be an extension of the dialogue, as opposed to breaking into song for no conceivable reason?”

Honestly I've never looked at musicals as a "random burst into song" but instead as a point of view from the character's interpretation of the subject presented as a song :emma:

I really hope there’s going to much less songs than in ASIB, while she’s a very talented singer, I just know this kind of dark role in such a fantastic movie sequel is an awesome way for her to show her acting skills.

anyways I LOVED the 1st movie, so having Gaga on the sequel is just a very blessed addition.

Found this funny compared to the story of Gaga hearing Bradley Cooper sing for the first time:

https://www.empireonline.com/movies/news/joker-wont-be-gotham-clown-prince-of-crime-in-folie-a-deux-exclusive/

“I do seem to remember her spitting up coffee the first time I sang, so that felt good, that was exciting, and made me feel confident,” he jokes. Together, they found a creative harmony. “Gaga was always very encouraging of just, ‘Go with what you feel, it’s fine’,” says Phoenix.

Interesting concept, a professional singer playing a part in a musical but, in order to stay in character, not singing like a professional. So not a musical in the accepted sense, just a movie where the characters sing, not because they're good at singing, but because that's what the characters do.
