While many assumed she would compete for lead actress, sources indicate she might pursue a supporting actress nomination, as the story is reportedly told from Arthur Fleck’s perspective. Gaga could be in a strong position if her screen time justifies it and the film meets expectations.

The trailer seems to suggest she has a LOT of screen time, based on how many different scenes she’s in. She’s also billed equally with Phoenix. Idk how these things work or what the criteria are tho.

nope i don't see this happening at all. 

she's literally a co-lead on this film and although I know category fraud has happened in the past, to me she's a lead...but who knows? 

this might give her a better chance to win the acting Oscar but I think she's gunning for a lead actress one. 

actresses in contention for lead actress atm: angelina jolie, amy adams, saoirse ronan, mikey madison (I think Gaga has a good chance of getting in if her performance is great which I'm sure it is)

Are there any Lead Actresses being hyped this year for an Oscar ? I think Angelina Jolie, Saoirse Ronan and Mikey Madison so far but yeah going for Supporting Actress could be a smart choice. It depends, both categories are very competitive and depending on Gaga's screen time (I suppose she's Lead and going to be there a lot), it can be talked about in the next  years with the "Strategic Oscar nominees that were Lead but submitted to Supporting aka Fraud Oscars" like Viola Davis with Fences.
