Katy is a relic, she represents a very specific period in pop music, she is not generational and even her old hits will never be regarded as all time pop classics. Gaga could never release another song and her legacy would be secured, what is Katy's legacy exactly? What is her artistic identity? The world is far too self aware now to take her brand of shiny but artistically hollow pop music seriously. Womans World is just a bad song, it was never going to be a hit

Nicki is married to a s.o. so… and Doja made clear that she had singed a contract before Kesha’s case came to light, so she’s forced to work with him. (I’m not a Doja fan, but that’s what happened when everything came to light.) 

Katy is the first and only big artist that’s working with him on her own accord. It adds to injury that she mentioned she was friends with Kesha back during the witness era.

She could have made a big comeback. The odds were in her favor. People were listening to her old stuff again. Her music was featured on viral videos and they even began to acknoledge her as one of the big pop girls of the 2010s who are looked back to with huge sympathy. All of this together with a new release that keeps those people engaged with her would have been good conditions to make her comeback live up to the icon status she has become over the years. Yet she or whoever chose this tacky idea to basically do everything wrong one can do in this day and age. It almost seems infantile as if she purposefully wanted to record a song with one of the greatest assholes of the industry and make a feminist song with him. Now she's the ludicrous act that she may have been since day one but people were too blind to witness

Katy really ****ed up badly by working with D. Luke again. During the few months before the announcement I saw quite a lot of hype for her comeback and she totally ruined it by working with D. Luke.

I don't know how going back to the drawing board will save the era considering it's still D. Luke who produced the album...

Yeah they’ve all been given hell. Doja, Nicki, Kim, all of them. Kim and Doja have contracts with him though if im not mistaken? 

I don’t really think Katy is being “cancelled” for this tho. She’s struggled since Witness in 2017. I think her biggest plunder with all of this was that she really was primed to finally have a decent comeback IMO - pop music seems to be making a comeback and everyone was ready for her to deliver a good bop. But, she delivered a mediocre song produced by an extremely controversial producer when she could’ve worked with Max Martin, Ilya, Shellback, Cirkut, Stargate, etc. or literally anyone else because she’s Katy Perry. I think this was just the final nail in the coffin for her

It's wild that so many artists float singles and then there's no album in sight (like Cardi's back to back #1's WAP and Up), but this album rollout didn't event consider they'd want to see how people react to pretty crucial choices (the cheesecake imagery and the DL of it all) before launching the full record with vinyl and everything already in production. It's going to be hard to course correct now.

I agree with this.  But I hope it's not the final nail in the coffin for her.  I would like to see her drop Luke and get her act together musically.  I really love so many of her old songs.  I can't allow the thought of Luke to ruin my appreciation for Katy's old music.
